Default Ignition Timing!

Finally arrived the Consult II to the dealer. I went and advance my Ign. Timing to 5 degree and the car have more response than before... I notice that you can advance the time to 5 degree but in neutral the car only advance 3 degree (15 BTDC stock w 5 degree adv. 18 BTDC) I didn't run the car w the consult II plug but I assume that the other 2 degree are gonna be advance when the car need it, is like a limit of advance... what are you think guys??? BTW you can also adj the RPM in neutral and many others things.

Thumbs up

I have tried this also, from +1 to +5 deg. and I am currently running +5 degrees advance. You loose a bit power on the bottom, get worse gas mileage, but you make it up from 3500 to the top. I got the most HP at 6658rpm (according to the dyno)

I have put my Z on a dyno on the weekend, but it has a “test” exhaust system on it, so I will not show the results yet. But I will put the results on the web when we are finished with the exhaust.
Then I will do different runs with all timing settings and exhaust (stock and custom cat-back)

Is not mine, is the dealer... I know the dealer owner and all the tech's, so I can do whatever I want with the Consult II.

P.S. If you want to know how much is it is around $14,000.00

So your dyno shows that the curve keep going up to redline with time advanced only, no mods.?

I just got my timing advanced 2 degrees today, during some warranty work. They did it for free, but did ask me for all excellents on the survey they will send. Normally its a $90 deal. I did notice a slightly rougher idle, and a little more power after 3k. It's not a huge difference. It just feels a little bit peppier.

I did this with my spec-V. You can advance it +5* all day but you cant "update" it to set it. I relocated my Knock Sensor and grounded it back to its stock location to make it less sensitive and went back to advance the timing and it worked. The KS on the spec is extremely sensitive, the Z is the same way. I think I may do a little research on the KS on this car also. It improves the A/F ratio and makes the car idle much smoother too. I had an increase of just over 4 WHP from the mod.

Ok Kiddies,

Shift **** is coming soon ( i know, i said that already) just way too buzzzzzzy with work !!!!)

Dyno runs are available to anybody in Toronto area to see how much power you got - not my dyno, so you have to pay.

As for the timing, you can update it and it will stay.

Consult II costs $ 4799.95 Dealer showed my the invoice when they got their second one.

But, on the most interesting news, heh eh hehh , I hope….. we will be able to reprogram (hack) the actual ECU soon. We are most of the way there.

Can’t promise anything yet…

wouldnt that be 10degrees BTDC? because youre advancing your timing?

I'm assuming you're talking about the Sentra V-spec. Recently, at the track I talked to a guy with a V-spec and he mentioned something about grounding the KS on his car, but didn't think anything of it.

Now that you bring it up though, if it truely is sensitive on the Z as well, then it could be pulling timing during some hard driving, like at the track?

I'm just still dissapointed at my Z only running 97mph traps while others run 100-102 with no problems. Maybe the KS is more sensitive on some Z's more than others. It could be the answer to the incossistent power being put down on dynos or miles per hour run at the track.

If you have more info please send me a PM letting me know how/where to ground the KS to make it less sensitive.

I am currently researching this. I did have the spec-V and the knock sensor mod is a very simple thing. With the way the Z's timing is doing this mod shouldnt be a problem, also I am sure that everyone here runs atleast 91 octane fuel. I will keep everyone here updated. It mod may be something as simple as placing a soft silicone or rubber gasket between the sensor(s) and grounding it better, or it may be better to relocate and ground back to the sensors stock location. I have do develop the best way of doing it and get some dyno time.
