Default Thottle body spacer - Gimmick or real deal?

I have searched but not much on this topic which leads me to believe that tb spacers don't do anything and are a waste of money.

anyone think/know any different?

well - there are some people out there that believe they are the real deal. Back when I worked for another sponsor from this forum, we tested them out on the QR25 (thats the 4 cylinder Nissan engine in the Spec V) and we found 2-3 whp and 4 tq gains from a smooth bore. I'm not so sure about the effects of them on the VQ with the swirl vs the smooth bore, I suspect that the effects of the swirl which really is an old school application on carburated vehicles may not yield the same results as the smooth bore ones will. I do know for a fact on the QR the swirl looses power.

we are talking about different engines tho will. I know the QR spacer works, and the spacers work on some domestics as well... on the VQ no one has successfully tested one yet, but they have been for sale for a while.

also, the swirl is because of the sharp bend at the neck of the plenum, they said it helps the air turn by reducing drag or something... Shawn at church says there were gains, but the thread was deleted..

Default save your money

learn from the "Mods I regretted" thread.

Don't waste your money on expensive NA mods, just save up for FI, by the time you nickle and dime your way to 20hp, you could have had a turbo kit putting out twice that.

that is such a misconception.

NA mods when done right yeild gains and are fun. if you buy all the most expensive components... well, you aren't buying them for the gains it's all about the label whoring.

you can mod and keep it under 2-3k and have a crazy fun NA car that is fast. or just use nitrous.

and a turbo kit is not exactly a drop in the bucket or the possible issues

All the people claiming that a "swirl" or "vortex" effect make power should just buy a turbonator and be happy with it.

The concept behind the throttle body spacer is flaky at best. Any "increased volume" of the intake plenum won't even make much of a difference.

I'd have to agree with the NA mod statement. After feeling the increase from nitrous or a forced induction setup, bolt on NA gains seem a bit.... pointless...

It has been proven to work and it does work. Over 50 people have them and only 1 returned it in all the tests that were done. Contact OCG35 or DaveO here to get more detail about it. The ones that think it's a gimmick are the ones that have not even tried it.

Don't bad mouth something till you try it yourself.

Yea, thread got deleted due to two ethugs on g35driver that always caused these types of threads to go downhill.

ethtugs, the starter of the thread deleted it - get your facts right man, even an admin said the same thing, is this how you got your facts about the tbs working as well - more rumours?

that is if you are looking for a big increase in HP. some people are happy with the roundabout power levels we have, but want faster response, louder/meaner exhuast, broader powerband, etc.

I mean, don't get me wrong... if you are looking for power gains, FI is the way to go, but NA mods have thier place and make the car insanely more fun to drive...
