Different clutch problem on '07
I've got an 07 PPW Base model and with 3000 miles on it. I haven't experienced any clutch pedal sticking issues with my car yet, and I've been to the track twice so far. 13.801 @104.42 2.315 60' -gettting around to posting time slip.
However, the other day, I was driving hard for less than 10 minutes and then I made a right turn, wound out first gear, got a little sideways hitting second gear and when I shifted into third gear, the clutch didn't grab and the engine fried the clutch all the way to its 7500 rpm limiter.
Thinking I was spinning my tires in third (never happened before), I upshifted into 4th and once again the clutch didn't grab and it got roasted all the way to redline. The wonderful scent of burnt clutch lasted a while.
Has anyone had any horrible experiences like this? This is my first Z, is it normal for the clutch to get overheated this easily? Weak pressure plate?

There was a guy on here a couple of weeks ago with an '07 that described the same thing you are, which is clutch slip. He would hit the accelerator and the clutch would not grab. You seem to have an exaggerated version of his issue.
Regardless, a couple of days later his clutch fell to the floor. The clutch slippage may be an early warning sign of the same clutch problem everyone else is complaining about with the '07's.

I forgot to say that the next time i drove it, my clutch chattered when I started out in first off idle. (keeping the rpms under 1k or so) If i took off at slightly higher rpm's, the chatter wasn't there.

I had no clutch issues at the track, and the last night I went, I got 11 runs in. John, I also feel that the clutch is just too weak for this car.
Invazn, if you have an '07, I think you might make that 1/4 mile list with your 25 sec run.

i have an 07 with 11000 miles, daily driver got her in march. the last few thousand miles i smell a faint buring smell when i get out of the car, almost like the smell it had when it was new and breaking in, i also noticed that the clutch feels like it is much lighter that it was when i first got it. no problems with the clutch sticking but i dont driver her vary hard and i have had no track time. is this an early sign of the 07 problems?

I just picked up a manual 07 last week. And I've noticed this burning smell too. I have maybe 170 miles on it so far. This is my first Z and first new car. Should I be worried?
