Default UPDATE: any RB engine swaps?????

READ MY LAST POST WITH EMAILS

Well me and a freind which owns a very nice 240sx that is turboed were talking. He has finished all his exterior mods and the car looks beautiful. He also turboed the car on a ka engine and its worked flawless for over 4 years now.

But we got to talking and he is planing on placing a RB engine in his car and getting more reliable power. After talking a bit he asked me whats the Highest HP Z's I know of. At first my face went blank because I couldnt remeber anyone I personally know of. I then remebered USN's car and Albertos and last but not least Nitrouz. he asked me if any of them hit over 750 hp. I couldnt honestly answer.

5 mins later a freind we know that has a daily driven 900hp supra swings by to say hi. We all start talking and we start talking about engine swaps. I told them about Noah's car and his new V8 and they thought that was really cool, they then asked me why no one has ever swaped an RB in the Z. I told them I dont know.

So it got me thinking and I rembered that noah did the v8 swap and so did that drifting dude named chris with the titan v8. I also remebered those two guys talking about doing the RB and how one of them sold the engine and the other no one ever heard from again. I did my search and didnt find anything.

I know its expensive and that there is a issue with the transmision fitting but has anyone ever swaped a RB in a Z? Im pretty sure its top dollar but wouldnt it be more relaible than the VQ in higher than 700hp.

im not planning on doing this but man it got me thinking. my freinds supra holds so well and I have never heard of many Z's over 700hp that are DD.

My freinds supra runs off race gas and was built by titan motorsports in orlando, but thats as much as I know, and he runs it in low boost most of the time. just in case people are asking. also he drives daily to school and work and home.

my question is what swaps have been done to the Z's through out all these years? RB? JZ? V8?

RB swaps have been done. Here's a G35, but it would be relatively the same to do the swap into a Z chassis.

the vq motor is light years ahead of the rb26dett, 2jzgte and v8why?
stay far away from the rb26 keep some money in your pocket. you want a 700hp Z go see VTR.

RB26 in a G

Why would you give up 1L of displacement? Because it's the infamous RB platform?

And there has been someone on here that has hit over 1000HP on the VQ. Can't find the thread now but I'm sure someone will chime in with it.

injected performance has a 1016rwhp street z with full audio. many z's are starting to get pushed up and over 700rwhp. even though the engine has been around for years (variant of the vq) there is alot of groundbreaking stuff happening lately. for instance basic greddy tt kits are climbing closer to 700+rwhp. were breaking the 300rwhp n/a barrier, theres alot happening fast! the 2jz and every other motor was the same way initially. after trial and error they found what works and what doesnt, and the possibilities are endless

well you see more skylines with higher numbers and more durability compared to the VQ. You hear more VQ engines breaking when they are FI.

thats very true i agree with you. But i have alsways said that cars that come turbo last longer than cars that get turboed.

also im not planning to do this it was a question to see if any z's have done this or any other swaps?

the rb26 is also considerably heavier than the vq cause it has an iron block. also there is the added weight of the turbo high up in the car, and all that weight is in the front. it will throw off the weight balance a bit, but nothing that will ruin a street car, a track car however will prolly lose some potential as far as handling goes

Well I never actually spent any money for the car side of the project...but I spent roughly $12-13k on the motor side of things. That was for the Motor/Tranny/Wiring + all my parts + machine work.

PS.....The RB26 is not bulletproof! It has its problems just like any other motor does.

+1 the RB was introduced in like 1986 where the VQ wasnt into'ed until 94 or 95. The VQ is the ONLY motor to be in the top 10 motor list EVERY year since the list has been created!
