Default 06 rev up engine : Rebuild or swap ?

I burnt a valve on my #4 cylinder with nitrous on my 06 350z which has 18200 miles on it. I tried putting it back to stock and getting warranty service but failed at 2 dealerships. So basically i am left with the options of rebuilding this motor (not sure if its just the valve but that cylinder showed zero compression) with stronger internals or i can purchase an 06 longblock from another Z for around $2000 with 22000 miles on it. What is my best option. How much am i looking at if i decide to rebuild and upgrade (nothing crazy) in just parts alone? ANy help or suggestions would be much appreciated!

it all really depends on your financial situation and what your plans are in the future. i thought my motor blew but it ended up being just an injector. but since the motor was apart already i just decided to go ahead and build it. i already had a twin turbo on stock block and wanted to upgrade. so if you plan on going forced induction later it would probably be a good idea to just do it now rather than pay the labor cost later. but if you just need it to get around and dont plan on going f/i then just purchase a stock motor.

is there anyway to remove the engine from up top or through the front after taking off bumper, bumper support, radiator, etc? i know in the service manual it shows the engine to be removed from the bottom while its on the lift. what would i expect to pay (ballpark) for an engine swap if i were to have someone do it?

alot...not many ppl are doing swaps b/c the VQ is more than capable of putting down some serious power.

a couple are doing RB swaps, noah has done the LS2 swap....not much else out there to throw in besides the 2JZ which a couple ppl are doing. why not build what was designed for the car? It only makes sense. This isn't a honda civic...its a Z.

yea i intend to replace it with another revup Z motor. I have an option of buying a revup from another 06 Z and wanted to know about the swap. Thats why i was asking if the motor can come out any other way besides from the bottom.

yes...you can take the motor out of the front of the car! bumper, support, radiator, etc all have to come off, and then you take use a cheery picker to slider her right out the front.

How much nos and was it tuned? I would look at your options for a swap like V8 or other. At least get some work done while it is out. 2000+ just to go back to stock seems like a waste

whats a ballpark price i would be looking at for an engine swap? just a round about figure?? I will be using my stock wiring harness and ecu.

I was a victim of being stupid with my nitrous. I had a 75 shot zex kit on it with a bottle heater, purge, heater switch, nitrous pressure gauge, etc. It was wired into the TPS for WOT. The 75 shot was great. It ran hard and fast, but then i got stupid. i did not have a tune and got greedy. I upped the shot to 100 and hit it a few times with no problems. Then my stupid a$$ took it on the highway and sprayed for around 10 seconds straight thinking i was "Brian" from fast and the furious. Needless to say, i burnt a valve on the #4 cylinder. I am prolly selling the kit to fund a rebuild or engine swap. I have the whole Zex kit, blowdown tube, nitrous pressure gauge, fuel pressure gauge, bottle heater, heater pressure switch , purge kit, and fuel pressure switch. Pm me if interested. I prolly invested around $1100 when all said and done with all the parts and fittings.

Now i'm thinking of doing an engine swap myself if it is very costly to have it done by someone else. But want to do all the research before so i know what i am getting myself into.

Swaps are exotic for sure, but I'm still a fan of building the good ol' VQ.

on the tech sheet i got back from the dealership, it saids that the #4 cylinder exhaust valve is burnt. Could i get away with just replacing the whole head and not removing the engine? Just looking for suggestions. Its killing me to see this Z in my driveway everyday not going anywhere.

That depends, have you absolutely ruled out a cracked piston or damaged rings? Only way to really tell is to pull it apart and see it with your own two eyes.
