Default Smelly Clutch

I just bought an 06 with only 5600 miles on it. Yesterday I was checking the oil and could not help notice a burning smell coming from the rear of the engine. It smelled like a burning clutch. I never abused the clutch and most of my life have driven standard transmission. Any idea how much this repair will cost me at the dealer? I understand they do not cover clutches.

When i got my new tranny(s) put in, they smelled really bad for a few thousand miles. I asked the dealer and apparently they coat the trannys with a wax so the outside doesn't corrode while sitting on the shelf and it takes many thousands of miles to burn off. Due to your low miles, i'd imagine that may be your problem. I could smell mine after a 20+ min normal speed freeway drive. Not necessarly linked to shifting a whole lot. Hope this helps!

That is good news! The clutch does not slip at all. In fact it is a bit grabby. Seems very easy to stall out the engine. I had a Z06 before this car and with the amount of torque all I had to do was just let it out and the car would lurch forward without stalling.
Thanks

Warranty covers one clutch and flywheel replacement with your first transmission replacement under warranty. They are supposed to do that. Don't let them replace your tranny the first time without putting in a new clutch and flywheel!

Why would they replace the clutch and flywheel with a trans if there was nothing wrong with it?
Wear is not covered.

Are you sure the smell is buring clutch? Check to make sure nothing is touching the exhaust and burning/melting, like a plastic bag etc.

The way the manager explained it to me was that apparently so many people tried to say that "due to the synchros going they had to shift extra crappy, thus putting more then normal stress on their clutch", so Nissan go so tired of people saying the bad tranny burnt up their clutch, that they finally decided to just replace it all the first time so no one could complain from that point on. SO now it is "mandatory" when they replace yrou first tranny. (Doesn't mean they always do it, you may have to "remind them" lol) I didn't *****. I had just bought the car used with 32,000 on it. I'll take a free clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, tranny and rental for two days to beat up at my will, any day!!!

It's not mandatory to replace the clutch assy with the trans.
Probably the manager just making more money by replacing them under warranty.
Dealers do make money on warranty
