Default Is it possible to ADD cruise control?

Is it possible to add cruise control? Buying the controls for the steering wheel is a sinch, but has anyone added cruise to a base?

Ahhhh, the monthly cruise control question.

No you can't add it. Your ECU doesn't have the capability to support cruise. Since the car is drive-by-wire, the ECU must control the throttle so you can't add an external physical throttle control either.

People have been asking about this for 5 years now and nobody has come up with a viable solution yet. Sorry.

Its wired for it. The ecus are the same. Ill figure out how to make it work. Kind of funny i can turn the cruise lights on and off with my uprev software, in my base model. So it has to be wired for it.

ECU's are not the same.

2003 Coupe Base ECU has part # of 23710-Z33002
2003-2004 Coupe A/T....23710-Z33004
2004 Coupe M/T...........23710-Z33017

Almost every year has a different part number, and they are general broken down into A/T, M/T and Base classifications.

Sending a signal to the dash lights means nothing.

the clusters between at least base and enthusiast models are the same, that is why you can illuminate the lights. The ecu part #'s are different. Whether it is only due to cruise or not I can't say

ALL Z's have cruise. You just need to know how to set it. I'll explain.

Press the accelerator to get you up to speed. Once your up to the speed you'd like to maintain, 60, 65, whatever. Note the position of the accelerator in relation to the floor and hold it there. If you lift it you will turn the cruise off.

Not really. The demand just isn't there, otherwise somebody would have developed a way to implement it. There's just aren't enough base models being sold to have that big of a potential market.

I read somewhere that the G35's cruise control has an extra sensor in front of the car that will sense if it's getting too close to a vehicle in front of it and disconnect cruise. If true would the Z be able to use it?

Zs and Gs have totally different ECUs so a lot of the special features like collision avoidance aren't programmed into our ECUs.

You could make one pretty easily with a ultrasonic range finder or equivalent. All you need is something to trigger a signal that would be tied into the clutch switch. That would make the ECU think you had pressed the clutch in and that cancels the cruise.

I checked the pinouts on my ecu, the cruise control wires are there.

All ECUs have exactly the same pinouts and the harnesses are the same. That doesn't mean the the internals are programmed for it.

yeah, this has been discussed many times, If it were possible/cost effective I think somebody would have done it.

Exactly. After 5 years nothing even close. There was one guy claiming that he was going to hook up something to the throttle pedal but I think the safety concerns over that won-out and he abandoned the idea.

I also though somebody had tried replacing the base steering wheel with one from another car that had the controls. After all, the harness has the connectors for the cruise switches so it should have worked, right? Needless to say it didn't work, after all, it's the ECU doesn't support it.

well i'll be you guys guinney pig... i bought a universal cruise control unit, what it is basically is an electronically controlled unit that pulls a wire to the throttle... yes, i'm a newbie but even einstein made alot of mistakes

i'll post a DIY if no one have ever done this... of course the control unit is not attached to the steering wheel or the ECU, i'll probably put the remote control in the plastic piece that's attached near the shift boot... i'll let you'll know how it goes, this is just for those who wants/needs CC

After my numerous talks with UPREV, i have the end user tunable version of osiris they have told me in the past the can reflash the ecu with one that supports cruise control. They have also told me they have not seen a difference in the BASE ecu compared to the other ones, but then again they havent looked into the cruise control. I was going to try it but have not had time. If it does have the harness then its as simple as flashing the cruise code into the ecu.

So are you running multiple maps on your base with Osiris, and if so how are you switching from one to the other?
