Default Clutch Life Expectancy

No Z YET, but am looking toward a Spring purchase. I've searched but did not find any info on the expected life span of a Z clutch. Only previous experience with a clutch in a vehicle was an (don't laugh!) '86 Cavalier. That clutch lasted about 90 thousand miles.

Obviously, a Z is not a Cavalier, but under conservative driving, how long will the clutch last. Hey, I'm 47 and the need to squeal tires and make smoke has been out of my system for some time...of course, the Z may change that...

Thanks,
Mike

Probably for awhile. 33k and not a problem on the G.

My old roommate has an 03 Z with 40k and no problems.

I have no idea on the max but it's probably a decent amount.

Default It all depends on the driver, if you have a brand new clutch

and im sure you know this, you need to break it in for about 400 miles, thats eays driving stop and go miles, youre not supposed to launch off the line cuz it will glaize it, and thats about it. If you break it in properly, and dont slip it alot, depending on the clutch you should get about 40-50+k miles out of one.Once again it depends on you, if youre gonna drive it nice and moderate mods, or if youre gonna drag race/street race and have lots of mods??

Thanks for the replies guys. For me, it's MT or nothing... Doesn't sound like the clutch will be an issue for me.

My right foot? It has been known to get a bit heavy at times, kinda like my right wrist when I'm riding my cycle. However if I get a speeding ticket, my wife will be pissed. Gotta keep mama happy.

Sorry but I haven't the faintest how long the clutch on the 350Z that you don't have will last.

I have 47k on my daily driven 04.0 Z, same clutch, still grabs fine! Like any wear item on a car it's all about how you drive it.

Reluctantly crouched at the starting line
Engines pumping and thumping in time
The green light flashes, the flags go up
Churning and burning they yearn for the cup

They deftly manuver and muscle for rank
Fuels burning fast on an empty tank
Reckless and wild, they pour through the turns
Their prowess is potent and secretly stern

As they speed through the finish, the flags go down
The fans get up and they get out of town
The arena is empty except for one man
Still driving and striving as fast as he can

The sun has gone down and the moon has come up
Not long ago somebody left with the cup
But he's driving and striving an hugging the turns
And thinking of someone for who he still burns

He's going the distance
He's going for speed
She's all alone, all alone, all alone in a time of need

Because he's racing and pacing and plotting the course
He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse
He's going the distance

No trophies, no flowers, no flashbulbs, no lime
He's haunted by something he cannot define
Bowel shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse
Assail him and bail him with monster truck force

In his mind he's still driving, still making the grade
She's hoping in time that her memories will fade
'Cause he's racing and pacing and plotting the course
He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse

The sun has gone down and the moon has come up
Not long ago somebody left with the cup
But he's striving and driving and hugging the turns
And thinking of someone for who he still burns

'Cause he's going the distance,
He's going for speed
She's all alone
All alone
All alone
In a time of need

Because he's racing and pacing and plotting the course
He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse
He's racing and pacing and plotting the course
He's fighting and biting and ridding on his horse
He's going the distance
He's going for speed
He's going the distance

It's going to vary from person to person. My buddy got 160k out of his stock clutch on his z. it wasn't even slipping yet, but he does long trips and didn't want to risk it.

mine just went out at about 46k. I bought it at around 29k so I'm not sure how the previous owner treated it, but I normally drive it like a baby(though I have been known too have a few fun times with it.)

Thanks for the honest replies. Never having a "sports car" before, I wasn't sure if they had accelerated clutch wear or not. Sounds like clutch life is no different than any other MT car.

This will be a birthday present to ME this Spring. Soon enough, I'll be joining the Z owner ranks!

92K on '03 Z...I will change it at 100K just to be on the safe side...I am not taking any long trips with car out of state until I get a new clutch.

You can burn out a clutch in ZERO miles or it can last you over 100k miles. That is a lot of variation.

A lot of people replace the stock clutch, because for many people the dual mass stock flywheel has a crappy feel to it.
