auto trans problem shifting from park to reverse
Guys,
I have been searching for hours and haven't found any threads that deal with the problem I am having.
I have a 2004 350Z Roadster with an automatic trans. When I shift from Park to Reverse, there is a long pause of at least 10 seconds before reverse engages. In that time, the engine will rev freely until it locks into reverse.
I have checked the trans fluid level and it looks ok. The car has about 40k miles on it and I'm not sure if the fluild was ever replaced (I bought it at 25k mis).
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
RoadRash aka Michael

From what I know, when the tranny is bad, the reverse is usually the 1st to go in an automatic tranny.
I'm no mechanic, but when my past 2 cars with auto trannies went out (a Saturn SC2 and a Mazda 626) the reverse was the 1st thing to go. Then ATM fluid leakage....

at least there are rebuild kits out there now... sorry to hear. I must admit I've not heard of a stock auto going out so early (though no fluid changes may have something to do with that - supposed to be complete flush every 2 yrs or drain/fill every year).

No codes, no AT check light, right? If not, and if tranny fluid level is ok, then it is likely the tranny. The dealer has a special machine to flush the system - that works better than just a drain/fill. They can also read the codes from the tranny if there are any... good luck.
