Exactly the point I was making that a vq on 8pounds will make more then a rb on 20pounds and the vqs displacement is larger then that of the rb so with a built engine I can see the vq costing less and also making more power on less boost

yeah i see what your trying to tell me i looked up the pricing on the motor and tranny for the rb in the nearest store that has it and thier asking about 4800 bout maybe the same as a twin t's for the vq or correct me if im wrong of course thats not including installation motormounts etc. because im pretty sure it wont just bolt on haha

Stock boost on the R34 GTR was around 12.5-13.5psi IIRC. The cost of an RB swap, would be in the ballpark of building and boosting a VQ. The complexity of an RB swap alone is a pretty big deterrent if the cost isn't already. Also have to remember the displacement advantage of the VQ is going to be much more prominent in a boosted setup.

i like the ideas of swaps,, and there great, but imo, there tossing away a perfectly good powerplant. but its good to see change.

what you all are missing is theres 1300awhp r34s running around and umm 700whp 350zs running around. And if youve ever driven an r34 you would never go back to your.

But you also have to consider that the rb has been around longer then the vq35. Also 1300whp is almost maxing out the rbs potential...while 700whp on a VQ can be acheived with small 18g turbos, built block and 20psi. Why do you think the new GTR is equipped with a VQ rather then another inline. The VQ35 has only been around a few years. Plus the VQ35 has .9L of displacement over the RB which makes for less spool time. But all the power to you for doing a RB swap

That does make sense. The gtr wouldn't have a VQ in it if the RB was a better powerplant....

Yea I mean don't get me wrong that motor is amazing. I love it. But I just feel it woulda been used again. Or an upgraded version of it would be in the GTR if Nissan truly felt it was greater then the VQ. Also. I think some version of an RB woulda been in the Z's if it was that much better.... But hey. And thats the whole arguement the fact that the rb has shown high numbers and the vq has yet to get there. It all depends on if your willing to wait for the vq to get to the rb level. But I have my beliefs that down the road with a better tranny and better gear ratios the vq35 will be the new highway monster. with a 4.2L stroker kit and a 88mm turbo on a vq35 I doubt anything will be able to touch it except for twin turbo vipers or hayabusas. The only problem is it will take some time for it to be perfected.

the rb didnt pass u.s. emissions, and never will, hence they scrapped it for the vq in the new gtr. imo, give the vq some more time to be played with. after all, it makes great numbers fi, and i feel we're just scratching the surface.

you also have to remember the gearing is different. you cant use the gtr's awd tranny, youd have to use the rb25 tranny from the rwd gts-t skyline. also the characteristics of a rwd car are much different than an awd car. i have driven plenty of awd cars...and let me tell you, there a completely different animal.

1000+rwhp supras werent born overnight. its called r&d, and our car is going through alot of it.

Actually the RB was discontinued well before it was considered for US importation.

Maybe Miami is different but I think if you swap engines, it must be from the same year or newer than the engine it replaces? From a legal standpoint?

I think ima hold out then and see were the vqs go and i kno im gonna end up saving alot of money and alot less of a headache
