Arrow Do 04.5's have oil consumption?

Just wondering because my oil is dissapearing all the time. I have an appointment on Monday to get a oil consump test. Just wanted to hear from some of you guys if youve heard of 04.5's with the issue. The TSB is only for 05's and up and not for 04's but yet my car has the oil thirst!

Thanks guys.

Any vehicle can have oil consumption if it is abused or isn't propery maintained. But no, the non-revups are not known to have inherent oil consumption.

my 04.5 has oil consumption problem. Dealer told me to call nissan which I did, they said could not help but if enough people complained it might be considered given last TB on 05/06. Are you AT or MT

Im a manual tranny. Just got the car back from the dealer this evening. They changed the Valve covers and the PCV system and they said I had oil in my intake.

I dont think this fixed crap. In the last 400 miles the oil went from almost at the H on the dipstick to almost at the L. I know the PCV can carry oil and spew it into the plenum but not that much oil there crazy.

Im on my oil consumption test right now. Now I have to go put 500 miles on my car this week and bring it back to them with no oil. Shouldnt be a problem since I know the car drinks oil like a ****!

Whats funny is they didnt mark **** on my engine. not even the oil fill or the dipstick....I didnt check the drain plug or the oil filter though.

Keep us posted. I think 04.5 has same problems as 05/06 TB. We need more 04.5 owners to post comments to get a TB on the 04.5 year

There's also been a few '07 motors in the FS section because of oil consumption...

your '04.5 should have the same issue as the revups. I believe that the issue with the revup has to due with the 2nd compression ring, which is a differeent design from the regular engine. Also, this 2nd ring runs a much tighter gap than the regular VQ35.

I have an 05 base model 6spd. had an oil consumption test done. they said it was the pcv valve. This was around 30k. It went away, now I am at 62k its happening again 2 qrts in between oil changes I think thats bad.

Will I still be covered even though I am passed the warranty?

Well not every engine is the same. I do not really wish to get a new engine to replace an engine with only 55,000 miles on it. Now maybe if I had 100,000 miles then a new block would be very welcome. But at this point this is all just a lot of headache and alot of missed work driving to dealerships and getting shuttle rides back with 85 year old drivers that talk about how "they dont make cars anything like they used too".

Not to mention having to take off all my mods and driving around stock.

twitch, what kind of gas milage are you getting, I am getting great milage on the road some 28 to 29 mpg highway which leads me to believe that the compression is good but may be valve seals leaking. I'm MT but notice that after backing down or slowing down quickly to very slow then giving gas seems to produce blue smoke, where as normal driving does not seem to produce blue smoke. Of course kicking it produces all kinds of crap.

Right now using Moble 1 Fully Syn. high milage oil, 6 bucks per qt, somewhat better oil consumption but no real help. I've got 97,000 mile and will just have to keep feeding the beast. Quoted $7.5 grand installed for motor with 20,000 miles and $11.5 for new motor from dealer.

Have heard and read that plenty of people have this problem but as of now, no one precisely knows why and appreantly Nissan is talking. They put TB on 05 and 06 with AT, why? What have they found wrong with these motors? Why would 04.5 not fit here, what is the cut off line and what are the VIN numbers of those on the TB.

Will keep ya guys updated.

the only difference between revup and non-revup is above the block

I have an 05 base and had an oil consumption problem since day one and I didn't abuse my car at all. I had the motor replaced and the problem is gone. You will not be getting a revup motor. The long block includes everything except intake plenum, exhaust manifold, pullies and oil pan. I could be wrong but I believe thats it.

Cool. Nissan does not give away motors easily especially for a car that is 4 years old.
