Default Valve adjustments?

I searched titles and general search but I didn't find any info. Does the VQ35 require the valves to be adjusted after a certain number of miles? Sorry I posted in this area because I figured it would get read more often. But if in wrong place..thanks for moving mods . My dad was mentioning this to me.

Thanks, Devin

What does your owners manual say?

Well I looked and I didn't find anything so far. Does it actually mention it inside it? Maybe you can help me look. I hope you have yours handy. I could really use another set of eyes here .

I searched and found nothing either. I assume that adjustment is unnecessary.

i believe hondas needed to have their valves adjusted every once in a while (not sure if they still do). The VQ, however, doesn't need that. Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense for Nissan to say "No maintenance for 100k miles."

See if this helps. This is lifted directly from the Maintenance section of the service manual (MA section)

It says that they do not need to be adjusted, only inspected if they start to make more noise than usual. I can screen capture the area on how to measure the clearances if you want...

Valve clearance adj. if needed is accomplished by measuring clearance between the lifter (that sits on the spring) and the cam at a TDC point per cylinder. If the clearance exceeds specs, then a valve lifter of a different thickness is used to compensate

that no maintenance at 100K i believe is crap. .the only thing on the car that is lasting up till 105 would be the iridium spark plugs. but if you drive like my grandmother does then i'd replace them a lot sooner due to carbon build up. people who baby the Z all the time will notice compared to a maniac driver that it seems a tad slower. .i just replaced my spark plugs at 45K on the dot. .just cause i dont drive the Z much, but when i do it's all highway and 80mph and above. .here are my recommendations
oil change~synthetic @ every 5k/ non Synthetic @ every 3k
diff/tranny fluid change between 15-30K depending on drive ability
tuneup wise 60-100k depending on drive ability
coolant flush + thermostat & gasket @ every 40K

there's more but im lazy!

http://www.prestonkwikkar.com/schedmaint.html (a website im still constructing) but it outlines general maintenace procedures for most vehicles.

Your lack of knowledge runs the gamut from English grammar to the automotive field, but your know-it-all attitude is immense. I suggest you put a disclaimer in your signature to that effect, so none of the OTHER newbies here make a mistake and take you seriously. That is not a flame or personal attack, just a warning to the general Z community. BTW, you should contact Nissan and have them fix their manual - anything else we should know about?

another argument. .simply love them. .
. .it's my opinion. .so sleep easy on this one. . .go with what the manual says and the dealer. .just like how some tell you that you can change your oil at 15 K..thats a smart one. .i'll get a pic of an engine of a customer who did just that. .the caked on sludge was so immense that it fell into the pan and clogged the strainer for the oil pump causing her to blow the engine. ..and she had about 45K.

not saying to follow my lead..just saying my experienced opinion, or if you took the time to notice "recommendations" all im saying is thats what i would do at those mileages. .

English grammar?? jesus christ already it's a god damn forum. .not an English class paper. .

I thought Valves were adjusted via shims (buckets). At least that's what is done when you swap out cams... So you basically have to take the cams out to adjust the valves.

That is used at times but Nissan does have different sized "lifters" to put you in the Min/Max. And ...yes, the cams have to come out. In the case of a new build, they can be set up on the bench. Anything can be done so long as the Materials are up to Task----Its just a question of numbers

The lifters come in 27 sizes in 0.02 mm increments

And unless you just drive the **** out of it without oil changes...Once set, they will stay set

Yeah, My ex-husband used to race GSX-Rs. I remember the valves on those had threaded adjusters, and needed to be adjusted frequently. The VQ is not threaded, but rather shimmed. So you basically have to take the cams out to adjust the valves with different sized shims.

you have to remove the manifold spark plugs, and make the engine top dead center. .cyl # 1 has to be a tad loose and cyl # 4 has to be tight. if they are not your have to rotate the cam shaft 360 degrees. .and recheck it. .this is just inspection though. .

now this is on a 3.5 altima. .not sure about the specs, but the procedure should be about the same for a Z. . .

to adjust here is a diagram. .
