Default Are all RTV's equal??

I'm putting on my AAM oil pan spacer this weekend. And i was gonna buy the factory RTV from the dealer to seal everything up. BUT it's $25 for a tube of it!!! Would a high temp RTV from Advance auto parts be equivilent, or am i better off buying the factory stuff from the dealer?

P.S. I'm not trying to be a cheap a$$, i just don't want to spend $20 extra if they are all the same.

Thanks!!

Just call napa and get two premade gaskets for cheap.I installed the aam spacer this way a while back and no leaks at all.

I've never had a problem with using red or black RTV on oil pans, myself. Haven't done one of our spacers yet, but on both a VQ30 and VQ35, after sufficient cleaning of the mating surfaces and proper application of RTV never a leak.

Yea, the dealer's FIPG is pretty expensive, but some people have no problem getting it just because it's Nissan. I wouldn't get it at that price either, personally.

If you use the Permatex ONLY use the Ultra---Now days though _ use OEM for many things--I get the RTV that International Harvester uses for their Powerstrokes or the Chev OEM or the Nissan.

Its awesome, but once sealed, ITS sealed---also caustic, I got some on my stomach one day and when I peeled it off, it took the skin.

Its worth it for NO worries in crucial stuff
