Default Non-rev ups redlining at 7000+RPM, talk to me.

Considering the Osiris in the near future, specifically for raising the redline to a nice and fun 7000RPMs. What should I look out for? Any concerns I should be aware of? Would like to hear some feedback from those running their 287s past the original redline.

Alberto blew his engine with his turbonetics set up probably because he moved his redline up to 7k.
I think it was him that said the stress on the engine goes up like 10 fold from 6,500-7,000rpm.
Dont really know about peoples experiences on it with NA

I know many people who have had the technosquare reflash.. I believe the red line is 7200RPM.. and they have had no problems with it. I know aceman has had his set to 7100RPM for quiet some time.

Yeah - Drops off to nothing after 6400. The only reason to even consider raising redline is to give you a second or two more between shifts. That's about it.

I am convinced that some of these people obsessed with revving to 7k+ are those that stepped up to the Z from a civic or prelude.

There is nothing up there for you! Let it go.

Christ. Chill the hell out. This is why I ask before I do something. It's kinda' the whole frigin' point of this forum. And sorry, I've been driving VQs ever since I got my driver's license. So kindly insert your foot back in your mouth.

That's the answer I was looking for. Looks like I'll be scratching that idea off the list.

nah not true at all actually - the valvetrain is not the issue, the lack of power (due to stock cams) is

Hell im used to rx7's or sr20det 240. Id love to lower the 3.5 to a 3.2 or 3.3 to get the revs just to see how it would do. And it would sound really frekin awsome.

i have the ts reflash redline to 7200 but still dont go past 6600-6700. i dont think its a good idea to go past manufacturer's redline without any internal work

the VQ has no problem reving with 3.5 liter displacement - mine (built) is set at 8400 and could easily go higher if I asked it to. The rod ratio isn't a problem and destroking it won't earn you more revs in and of itself...you need the rest of the setup built to want those revs (again, the cams are the key). But again, that is not the issue. With stock cams, it's a waste of time to take it much higher than stock. I had mine (via reflash) at 7200 since 2003 - all it allowed me to do was end up a bit deeper in the power band during shifts as Erin said, which is particularly well suited towards the higher final drive options as well

Yeah i figured cams would have to be done with lowering the stroke i just miss my rx7 its was almost unlimited it would see 10k rpm daily without ever giving me a problem. To me its funny to see how little cams make a difference on tuned motor but no rev limit change. I think there is a ton of potential in the vq with custom set ups like you have on your N/A.

There was some talk on maxima.org a while back about using VQ35 crank/rods with VQ30 block/pistons/heads/etc to make a VQ33, as well as a VQ30 crank/rods and VQ35 everything else for a VQ32. Don't believe either ever got off the ground, though.

Of course with the trouble of sourcing a VQ30DET (RWD VQ30) block you could just have some custom pistons and/or sleeves made to drop yourself down from a 3.5...the Z33 is lucky with all of it's aftermarket.

In any case, just thought I'd bring up some old hybrid ideas that have been floating around the org for a while.

Hey Russell's 300zx vert did that at the drag strip when someone rode the rev limiter at 9k all the way down the 1/4 mile.
