Changing Oil: Crush Washer?
I got three of these guys for future oil changes, and I'm changing mine today. I am a bit confused on which way it goes, etc. Could someone give me a quick answer?
Which way is supposed to be against the oil pan?

When I installed mine, I had the smaller opening towards the bolt, and the larger side facing the oil pan. It seemed to thread easier onto the bolt that way.
Also wanted to add that there have been no leaks yet.

Ahh, alright. So the top part in the picture would be against the oil pan? And the part that is resting on the table will be the side that the bolt is threading through?

when buying your filters you might as well stock up on the washers too... they probably aren't 100% required...but what's a few cents to do a job right?
I buy the filters and washers by the dozen...

Untill that one time it doesn't, and you have an oil leak. Then you'll wish you spent the 33 cents per washer and took the 15 extra seconds it takes to replace it!
Glad for the information, so far my Z has only had the oil changed at the dealership. Yes I know it is easy enough to do, & I do all the big maintenance and modding on my car, this is too cheap and the stealership also does a 27 point safety check when changing the oil. MY stealership will use the Royal Purple that I provide, they actually save me some cash beacuse I provide the oil, but they still get ne for the oil disposal charge.
I have never used it on my brothers RX8. I also haven't used it on my dad's Tundra or my mom's Sequoia. They are all well above 70,000 miles with zero leaks, zero problems. But whatever gives you piece of mind.

Question about this, roast. Unless you are changing your oil and filter really often, why buy filters in quantity? I realize you probably get a small "case discount," but it can't amount to much. My theory is to get the newest filter possible, and if I've got three years' worth hanging around in my closet (or worse yet, my garage), they're just going to be picking up moisture from the air, and perhaps compromising the effectiveness of the element.
Your thoughts?
(to the OP: thanks for the question, and sorry for the hijack.)
