Default is grounding kit the cause?

Ok, checked under my hood today (after about a month) and notice that the manifold was just spotted with white powder. Looks like someone took talc powder and just blew it on top of it. also on the front where the belt is.

Now is this caused by the grounding kit? I've notice the same white power on the ground post on the battery as well.

I'll try and take a pic tomorrow. Washed most of it off today, so have to see if it shows up tomorrow.

I too have that problem after installing the grounding kit. Not sure if that is the cause. Battery connector does not have the powder residue that you've mentioned.

Is it on the plenum and stuff??? I remember my Avenger had the same thing happen to it over time on the Al of the plenum. It could be just some type of oxidation or something. Just a thought!

D_Nyholm, that is so wrong I doubt that it is the grounding kit since my manifold is like that and I do not have a grounding kit. It is probably just oxidation on the aluminum. Someone with a better knowledge of metalurgy can probably give you a better explaination.

I don't think it's the grounding kit. I've seen it before on my dad's Vette and like wise on other Alum intake manafolds. The cause is oxydation of the aluminum. This has no effect on performance and doesn't harm the car, though you will want to clean or scrub it from time to time or it will build up and permenently change the color of the aluminum. Remember, steel and iron rusts, and aluminum oxydizes. If the manafold was cast iron it would be starting to rust instead. Hope this helps.

But isn't "rust" simply oxidation of iron?

engine coolant when dried is white and flaky.

usually that's what you look for if you suspect a coolant leak somewhere. if you see any on/around the coolant pipes joints too, then I'm guessing that's the cause.

Sure you didn't buy a Delorean?

First I heard of this white powder everywhere deal.
