Car is hitting fake rev limiter at 2500
Ok, So I have now had this problem twice and I can't figure out what it is...
My car is acting like it is hitting a rev-limiter at exactly 2500rpms. Both times this happened I was accelerating in light rain. It doesn't happen everytime I drive in the rain, but it has only happened in the rain so I'm assuming water has something to do with it. Both times I was able to fix it with an ECU reset, so that leads me to believe that it is electrical. Anyone have any idea as to what might be causing it?

Sorry it didn't occur to me that you guys don't know me or my car here... I am a regular over at Z-tech. A friend who frequents both boards suggested that I post it over here.
i had the same problem with my AEM intake, (same as nismo) your filter is getting soaked and your MAF it getting wet, sending your car into limp mode. I took my intake out and the problem was solved.
Yes, typical limp mode behavior. Disconnect your -ve battery cable, then lightly pump the brake pedal off and on for 10 minutes or so. That is reputed to discharge all capacitors and reset your ECU upon cable reconnect. If not, you can always try the ECU reset procedure (I couldn't get it to work; timing has to be 100% perfect on each step) or leave the cable disconnected overnight.
So the general consensus is that the CAI is the culprit? Ok then... Looks like i'm gonna be picking up a pop-charger. Anyone got one fs?
PS... I'm hoping limp mode has no long lasting negative effects...???

I don't think so. Thats why the car goes into limp mode, to protect itself, but i could be wrong. My car went into limp mode at least 4-5 times. Hasn't happened since i took my intake out 10k miles ago and everything seems fine. What year is your car? On my 03 i think it runs better with the stock air box, it's quieter but maybe thats why i "thought" the aem felt faster becuase of the increased sound. I haven't tried the pop charger but i've only read good reviews.

I'd have to double check to be sure, but if memory serves... They all had gains that were damn close to each other, (any difference would never have been noticeable) and there was only a 1-2 degree difference in air intake temps. I can find the thread if you're interested on the details... So it really is just a choice of sound and looks. Personally, I like the sound of a big honkin air filter sucking for all it's worth, and I liked the look of the nismo under the hood. So that's what I went for.
