Default They say "Throw out Bearring" I say "I dont think so"

I have done my research before hand, and came to the conclusion that the noise I am hearing is not from the throwout bearring.

My car whines, almost like a loud whistle. But then when I engage the clutch (press it in) it stops. If I am correct, throwout bearring noises are usually the opposite, it makes noises when it is engagged, and stops when you let it out.

I tried searching to see what else it could be. My bf has a z, and his does not make this noise, he said it was not a normal noise.

I also let them know about a clicking from the rear, and they said it was my aftermarket "pads" (hawks), but this was occurring way before I put them on a couple weeks ago.

Does anyone know what these issues could be? I know the second issue is more than likely the rear differential, but of course they would blame it on my aftermarket breakpads. Blah.

Thanks in advance.

Are you referring to the "chattering" noise at idle?

That is the throw out bearing... it goes away after you press the clutch in.

could the rear clicking be that rear axle click that there is a TSB for?

when I read this, I thought it could have been your belts...I had a whistle from my belts when my car was cold. but I saw that you said that it disappears when you push in the clutch. where is the sound coming from?

I told them it was probably the rear axle issue.

Its not the belts, it sounds like its coming from the transmission.

My transmission on my early 03 model has always whined audibly when in low gears. It's the transmission and there's nothing really wrong with it. If it were the throwout bearing it would be grinding when you pressed the clutch in and it made grinding noise. You're fine unless you start grinding into gear heavily and having it popping out of gear.

The rear clicking is most likely the rear CV joint TSB on the 2003 axles. They will click when you come from a stop or run over a speed bump or something while moving slow. It was fixable under warranty, but would always come back to an extent. It's not anything to worry about either as long as you don't freak out over the noise.

In all, you're ok. Your Z is just a little loud (like mine).

sorry...I have no idea. hopefully taurran's right.
anyway, I just looked through my service manual and it says to check the transmission fluid level if there is a noise from the transmission. doubt it's related, but just throwing it out there.

My 07 has that unusually loud whine when the clutch is not depressed(and goes away when you engage it, press the clutch in). I'm pretty sure it's normal and have stopped worrying about it a while ago.

+1

The throw out bearings would be when the clutch is pressed in and the pilot bushing is when the clutch is let out.

It depends. Have you installed a clutch or flywheel? If so the pilot bushing most likely got ruined during reinstalling the transmission and would not be covered.

its usually not unless you have like 0 miles on it. to most dealerships its considered a "ware" item.

Got ya! It probably wouldnt be worth taking the whole trans out to replace. Especially for probably a part thats under 10.00 more than likely. I will let it be, if its common and not a big problem. When I get a new clutch or transmission whichever comes first I will make sure its replaced.
