Default 04 Tranny

Hey guys. I am new to the board so i'm prepared for crucifixion if I already missed this question somewhere, but I was wondering if the 04 tranny replacement was limited to a certain production date frame? if not, is this a recall that Nissan is responsible for even if i am over warranty? Thanks in advance.

Welcome. Nissan will replace your broken transmission under warranty.

Am I correct in assuming this would be covered in the powertrain warranty that is up to 5yr/65k miles instead of the 3yr/36k miles bumper-to-bumper?

Yes. You are covered for 5 years or 60K miles under the powertrain warranty for a defective tranny.

EDIT (some additional info)
  • Your dealer will likely need to order the new transmission. That takes a week or two.
  • Installing the transmission takes 3 or 4 hours. That means it should be a same day task, so you can drop-off and pick-up the car on the same day. The dealer does not need to keep the car overnight so you are not without the car for more than a day.
  • Since this is a warranty repair, there is almost no margin for the dealer. The dealer may suggest a clutch replacement. Don’t fall for this ploy unless you really do need a new clutch. If you decide doing a new clutch, it should be very inexpensive when done at the same time as a transmission replacement since there is hardly any additional labor expense under this scenario.
  • You will really like the new transmission. It is much better than your original.
  • Your new tranny may have a “whine” sound. Don’t be concerned about this since it is not indicative of any problem. The whine decreases and pretty much disappears after driving 5k miles on the new transmission.
