Do you know for sure that the oil is being burned? Also, do you have compression test results, and does it indicate oil ring damage or valve damage? Of problem Z's, overly high oil consumption appears to be fairly common.

yes, my oil consumption is increasing too.

I went from 1/2 quart low for 3000 miles
to 1 quart low for 3000 miles.

It is not allarming yet, but if at next oil change i'm down to 1 quart and 1/2 I'll start cursing..

Nano, keep us updated on your oil burning issue. I started with synthetic at 10k miles, and have since put on about 6k miles. No oil burning yet. (At least not that I'm aware of.) I'll start keeping an eye on mine.

I started synthetic at 1200 miles. Had engine replaced at 26000 due to oil consumption.

the question is... does the oil burning apply to everybody that started with synth real early?

Are there people who switch to synth at like 1000miles and aren't burning an ounce?

Maybe someone should start a thread where people post oil burning numbers and warranty/service interventions that have been done.

It will be easier for anyone who then has serious oil burning issues to get the car fixed.

I ran the stock oil for about 5k miles. 1st oil change I put in Mobil 1 5W-30 for new cars. Been changing it every 5k and no problems at all. My brother works at Express, he changes my oil... he tells me no consumption and oil looks good at every change. I now have almost 24k miles on a 2003 touring 6MT and I drag race it all the time at a 1/4 mile track, and I hit 120+ mph regularly too on streets/interstates... hit 156 governor twice. Anyone tried the new Mobil1 extended mileage oils? I was thinking of getting the 15k miles one, and going maybe 10k... but that is a long time...

I wouldn't do the 10k extended oil...just change it every 3750 or 3 months like the manual suggests. I wouldn't run dirty or even semi-dirty oil through a high reving engine. I don't know how Nissan came up with that odd number...?

Anyway, I changed mine at the dealership at about 1500 just to make sure nothing was in the oil itself, ie shavings... They had a great deal going on at the time too, $99 dollars for 12 oil changes or 3yrs which ever comes first. With tax that came out to be $8 per change...insane! They use pure base stop/go Penzoil which is good enough for me...along with their filter. I date it just to make sure those little tricksters don't short me

FYI...I used Castrol GTX with a FRAM filter on my 86 300zx turbo for over 11yrs and put well over 100,000 miles on a car that already had 75,000 when I bought it. That thing still runs smooth and strong today. Nissan put all new injectors on it for free at around 108, so maybe that's why it starts right up with no problem. Never had a problem with the turbo either... Guess that's why I bought the 350z, just a great car overall

I also run Synthetic Mobile 1, and Track the car once in a great while.

The other day I had Nissan pick the car up, the Oil light had come on.

it was 3qts low, they said no leaks, no burning, the engine tests all came back good. then tried to stiff me on the tow bill (lol). I said I run Mobile 1, so they drained the new oil and replaced with mobile 1 for 39.00 at the dealership.

Is it my problem that the car burns 3 qts of oil in 2 months?

I am kinda worried about this.

Default Mobil 1

I have been using Mobil 1 0-40 since 1000 miles and I currently have 19,456 with no issues.

The dealer does all my oil changes and the lead mechanic is the shop foreman and he is the only one that touches my car, he has never indicated any waaranty issues with my oil selection!

I bring in the oil & use a nissan filter!

Wix's makes some of the best filters. Should be OK. Go to www.bobistheoilguy.com for more information on the Wix filter.

do you check the oil level between changes? My guess is that most places that do oil changes, dealerships included, wouldn't know how much oil is coming out because they put a big drain pan under the car and the oil goes directly into a barrel.

I personally check my oil to include all fluids & tires on a weekly basis. It just takes a few minutes and I find it theraputic! It is a daily driver.

I am concerned though with all the oil consumption problems I have been reading. This concerns me more than the tire feathering issue! What will happen in the long term?
