Default How to flush clutch hydraulic fluid?

Hi guys,

Well, to make the story short, i'm trying to flush the hydraulic fluid for the clutch so that when my clutch sticks again, I can take it to the dealership and have them replace my master cylinder. My car has only 27000 miles on it, so needless to say, I was pretty pissed at the dealership (Sterling McCall Nissan in Houston).

Can someone show me where I can get some step-by-step instructions on how to flush the fluid? I've searched this forum, maybe I'm using wrong words, but I can't find what I need.

I think it would be nice to have these "how-to" threads become "sticky" threads, or have a DIY section for them. just my .02.

thanks guys,

Andy

If it's anything like the vettes, then it's easy.

Go buy 2 cans of the respective fluid, a funnel, and syringe.

With the motor off...
Remove a syringe full of used fluid
Add a syringe of new fluid
Pump the clutch ~20 times

Repeat the above steps until the fluid is clean.

You bleed it just like you do on brakes. There is a bleed port on the clutch slave.

on the left hand side of the gearbox in the tranny tunnel the bleed nipple is on the slave cylinder, just bleed it as you would the brakes.

after searching everywhere...here's what i found:

It's pretty simple. Jack up the car and put it on stands. Then, climb underneath and find the clutch hose. Put a clamp on the rubber hose to stop leakage from when you take the bottom fitting off. Disconnect the bottom end of the hose from the slave cylinder and then connect the bottom of the new hose to the slave cylinder. Now, take the top of the old hose off and quickly attach the new hose. Try not to be messy. Bleed the clutch and top off the resevoir with genuine Nissan brake fluid.

Make sure you use a 10mm line wrench. The metal on the fitting is extremely soft and an open end 10mm will destroy the fitting. Trust me.
simple enough

What symptoms are you having? Im having clutch issues too but my clutch had 2500 miles on it. Sometime it shifts like I have a brand new tranny and sometimes it wont go into gear at all and for the most part its grindy. Thiss happened all of a sudden about 300 miles ago

that doesn't sound like something that changing clutch line and fluid would fix. is it all gears? maybe a synchro problem?

Seldomly, if ever. If you choose to, just open the bleeder and let it gravity bleed while replenishing fluid. Close bleed after a half bottle of fluid and your good to go.

As far as the SS Line install. break the 10mm fitting loose where your flex line goes into the solid line....Just loose, and tighten it again with your fingers. Pull off the retainer. Next, break the banjo fitting loose at the Slave. Re tighten with your fingers.

Have everything layed out. Have some one to replenish fluid.

Quick as a bunny on speed, unscrew the upper fitting and screw in the new SS line. Next, unscrew the banjo bolt and screw in the SS banjo. Tighten it. Tighten the upper connection, install the retainer.

All this time the resivour NEVER runs dry because you have someone that is constantly adding fluid.

Open the bleeder and tap the slave/lines to knock the bubbles loose. Tighten it and pump your clutch. Best to start the motor because the vibration helps break loose air. Repeat -Repeat.
