Rob Tilley did it a while ago -

And also apparently Modified did something with one in an R32, but since I can't seem to find it... -

Beyond that, have you searched the forums?

i read a ton of tilley's posts but i never caught actual data. he's also the guy who tried to put a vq40 crank in a 35 where everyone told him it would not fit. he kept saying it'll fit but in the end it did not fit.
had not seen any data on the R32, but did watch a number of vids. looks like he has itb's and a whole lot of other super $$$ stuff.
i still have not seen a dyno chart of one though.

given the rev-ability of a VQ35, why would one bother going through all the effort of destroking? Yes, I know the other parts are factory issue, and certainly relatively readily available, but the aftermarket parts to do it in the VQ35 (rods/pistons) arent exactly pricey. Making it worthwhile is the pricey part, at least from an NA standpoint. Revs are not the engines problem - in fact, with the right build, rpm's are the easy thing. Building an intake setup, the right header, and the right cam combo to make power in the truly high eschelon of rpm's (9k plus) without the engine having a narrow power band, is the tough part. Hell I rev to 8400 without any change in bore, or stroke - and if I had a more peaky cam and a better set of headers (and intake) I could easily go higher...revs are not the VQ's issue, making it worthwhile is

i'm not saying i am doing this, and your reply is exactly the line of thinking that has prevented people from trying this.
i am just curious if anyone has tried this and what the results were.
sometimes you just never can tell about a combo till you put it together.
i agree that the parts on our market do not cater to making power with big revs and possibly less displacment might make them better. yes i know that is a somewhat stupid comment but i have seen some illogical stuff in my day so i tend to hold judgement until i see someone try and fail--then i laugh.
if i had deep pockets i would love to try a destroked/long rod revup with big cams, mild compression and a moderate boost t-trim. make an open plenum/no runner upper and rev till the belt starts slippin
but since my pockets are not lined with gold, and my oil consumption is getting out of control, it looks like it'll be some eagle rods, wiesco pistons and some head work.

Funny thing is i never had a VQ40 crank in my hands till 6 months ago.. Your post was before that. Get your info right before posting.
