Lighter flywheel question
Is there a lighter flywheel that won't make the rattle that the JWT flywheel makes? Or is that something you just have to live with? (Yes, did search, couldnt find anwers i wanted)

last vortech SC I heard made more noise than I have "chatter" noise - I never hear it unless I have the window down, stopped in neutral with the clutch out - and it's pretty hard to hear at that.

Still stock, but upgrading soon. It has over 70k miles on it and 60k with a S/C

I had a JWT clutch and flywheel and it had no rattle at all. the honest thing with lightweight flywheels and clutchs is that most all of them have tendency to rattel becuase your getting rid of a lot of weight and so there is less mass in the flywheel to absorb the noises of the tranny. its not bad though, just do some searching. find whats best for your application

Mine has next to none, although you do notice more mech noise, that's just a no-brainer when you take out the dual-mass 30+ lb FW, and Aluminum also being less dense than steel, you transmit more noise in general.
Small price to pay for astoundingly good clutch performance, and at least in my case, the rev characteristics of the motor changed a lot, all for the better w/exception of sometimes dropping too low idle.

All lightweight flywheels emit the noise generally between idle and around 2400. It's especially noticeable between 1000 rpm and 2400 or so as you engage first gear from a dead stop. To some the noise is annoying to others, they don't care. The heavier the flywheel, the quieter it will be

Like others said Aftermarket clutch will be able to put power down better and rev up and down faster. I too, would say that chatter is a small price to pay for extra performance. My JWT doesn't chatter all that bad either unless I'm in too low of a RPM in a wrong gear. I say you get something better than JWT though..it's nothing more than glorified stock clutch.

I always figured I would replace it when the stock one went out, it hasn't so it hasn't been a priority. Was either thinking of the JWT clutch & FW or the RPS clutch & FW. I don't know why, want to keep the combo the same brand though

My clutch is close to going, I'm planning on replacing soon. Was thinking about doing this mod but after thinking it over, my Z is my daily driver, no track time or anything like that, just "spirited" driving here and there.
I went ahead and bought stock and will leave the FW as is. Maybe by the time this new one is toast I'll be post warranty and ready to track the car and mod it accordingly. The savings from staying stock and having the install done by a good shop up the street instead of the dealer gives me $$ for an exhaust.

IMHO Nismo clutch/flywheel combo and JWT clutch/flywheel combo are absolutely perfectly suitable for daily driving, if not better than OEM.
Pedal travel is shorter therefore it's actually EASIER to engage 1st gear. Yes, sweet spot isn't as wide as stock so you it only allows little slip, but you shouldn't really be slipping the clutch in the first place anyway.
Unless you have Tilton setup or other stage 3/4 setup, these are perfectly drivable in a daily basis. Flywheel chatter is so overrated.
