Yes, it can. I blew out my Magna HFC on my B13, all the ceramics cracked, rattled, then everything slowly went out the tailpipe, didn't know until I went to remove the pipe and found the cat was empty.

Long story short I was shooting 2-4" flame out the tailpipe, car was not running overly rich, either (SR20DE runs a little rich normally). Just enough unburned whatever and super hot exhaust, ignited particularly on downshifts, usually with a backfire, too.

I put on new HFC and no more flames.
