I have the notion that the person with the question was inquiring in regards to making his automatic transmission shift faster.
1. Have a custom torque converter made, lower the stall speed (rpm). -$800+
2. Upgrade the automatic transmissions valvebody per the Transgo or Stillen kits. -$250/$800 respectively.
From what I have read, just the valve body upgrades will work wonders, but I believe the biggest difference would be made in a custom torque converter.
I have evaluated the current market price for used/new OEM nissan 6 speed swap parts and have come to the conlusion that it can be done for roughly $2000. This is quite a bit cheaper than the MKIV Supra Auto to 6 speed swapts (generally $5000+).
A very good friend of mine's father has built transmissions for 40 yeas for a primary living. He agreed that nothing compares to an upgraded valvebody. And also added that if you have a clutch belt custom built out of Kevlar, that it could definantly withstand faster lockups from the upgraded valve body. I have yet to crack open a 350z auto, but pretty much they are all the same and work on the same principals.
Coming from a guy that has driven manual transmission cars all of his life, I honestly like the manu-matic in the 350z. I cannot wait to get my Works Bell paddle shift kit in!

PS: Anyone have an exploded view of the 350z Auto transmission?

There ya go man... doing those upgrades should help make it a bit faster, a lot more responsive, and feel like a manual in terms of shift speed.
What exactly do you mean 'feel like a manual'? Because nothing will ever feel like using a clutch. I say just trade it in and get a manual... thats what i'm trying to do myself.

ok since this thread is open anyway ill ask a question:
my friend has a 5at Z and i decided to get in it and see how this manual mode thing feels. Upshifting is normal, but i noticed that when slowing down, the computer will downshift for you. Now are you supposed to always let the computer downshift for you? My friend doesnt use it so he doesnt know
