We're not really interested in fun enough - I want to maximize the entire setup, not just bits and parts here and there. Gears, coupled with the rpm's and the power, are part of why my car can easily keep pace, and in many situations, out and out sprint ahead of, setups with 80-100 more whp.I'm looking to go to an even higher gear soon fwiw....3.9 is no longer enough for me

what was the reason you didn't choose an HR engine? I know you started it way before, but i'm guessing that you still could get the HR engine.
JLee
1. because the HR was not out when I started mine
2. because you cant drop an HR into an older chassis without a ton of extra work - totally different wiring, ecu
3. there is still very little aftermarket support for the HR
4. it would have doubled my cost to first have to buy an HR engine new

When you mod, its not a zero sum game - any modding comes at a price, and that price is not always just the cost of the parts and the labor itself. Being prepared for those possibilities is the most important part of the modding plan.
There are so many variables that the determine the "responsiveness" of a motor. There is no simple, general answer to your question. There are so many different type of NA builds (eg. A high compression build like Jeremy's v.s. Adam's build) that you can do and so many different types of single turbo kits (eg. One with a smaller turbo that spools up much quicker v.s. One with a much larger turbo that creates more power but later on in the rpm range).
You my friend need to do a TON more research before you make any purchases.
