if your rev limit is above 7100, then yeah do it. id even say get ARP rod bolts and rev it to 7500 and get some sick cams. truth is, if you get cams and rev high, you will absolutely love it. if you drive your car a lot in daily type conditions (not racing very often or revving high) then you probly wont even like cams since you would feel the low end loss a lot more often than the ridiculous top end. so basically, it depends on your goals and driving habits

Cams are so much work to put in -- If you're gonna do cams, you might as well refresh the top end while you have everything torn apart. If you're gonna refresh the top end, you might as well do the bottom end too.

In short, if you're gonna do cams, you might as well build the whole motor.

Hard for us to tell if it's worth it to you.

As far as knowing which of the cams you've selected will require new valve springs... You'll just have to check the cam grinders web sites and see what they recommend.

Most cams shift the usable rev range upwards... Turning the VQ higher than the OEM rev limit is risky, so most people opt to put in stronger rods. Not everyone does it... It's kind of like using the stock hood latch with a CF hood... most people get away with it, but if your hood does blow up, it can ruin your day...

you would be safe to 7500 with just arp rod bolts, but thats not something to really rely on. if you just stay stock, youre safe to 7100. lots and lots of people are revving to 7100 stock w/o problems.

subscribing, just rod bolts and you can safely rev to 7500? I'm stock running to 7000 right now

yeah im running 7100 stock right now as well as a lot of people i know. i wouldnt go to 7500 constantly with just rod bolts, but its pretty safe if youre just doing something like 1/4 mile. i dont think i would do that with such a thing as road racing and spending a lot of time there, but its certainly safe for bursts. i know of several people that have been revving like that without any problem. in fact i dont think ive really heard of a vq35 suffering problems for an overrev not related to something like a no limiter mis-shift or missing 4th and hitting 2nd

Are you suggesting that someone drop their oil pan and change rod bolts while the engine stays in the car?

If I was going to change rod bolts (and I am) I would make sure there was a new set of balanced rods wrapped around them. Anything less is a false economy.

I would go with the Nismo Cams for your setup

I went with JWT S7 Rev-Up Cams along with the JWT HD Valve Spring / Shim Kit on my 2006 Z

Then spent $4800 for the install at the Nissan Dealership.

Love the way the car runs, pushing 276 at the rear wheels

yup $4800, I'm not a mechanic, so I have to have someone install it

276 at the rear is not bad for NA

Just do not know what your car is going to with turbos after a couple years, is it going to last and for how long. Thought it was not worth the risk

I definitely paid more to stay NA, but the car is fun to drive

thats kinda of steep for a install.. I was quote $600 to install cams in a FWD VQ.

You got raped for $4,800 with springs / cams / retainers.. could have gotten a turbo kit for that price IMO

$4800 for the install . Which dealership did the install for you? Earnhardt? Infiniti quoted me $1600 for a cam install. Did you tune your setup? Do you have a silver Z? I think I may have seen you a few times. I would love to check out your setup.

I got the cams done while I was in STL. Got them installed at the dealership, part of it may have been my fault cause I told them to take their time to ensure it was installed properly. Messing up a cam install would be pretty bad.

I originally bought the Nismo cams cause I was assured they would work in the 2006 models. Well they did not, they had my car all torn apart and was beginning to install them when they realized it was not going to work. So I had to search online for a replacement and then purchased the JWT set. So it took probably 5-6 days to get it done, because I also had to wait for the JWT set to get delivered.

The price was hard to swallow but the car is fun to drive. I had my car tuned at Technosquare in CA back in November. They are hard to understand when your talking to them, not very good english. Mine dyno'd at 276 RWHP, I thought I would have gotten more, but thats what it came out to. I have a black 2006 Touring model. I will be installing the 4.08 gears on thursday at the gilbert dealership off the Santan 202, then going back to CA for another tune in July, maybe better results. You can also click on my username, there is a link to a page on the ********* site.

Actually the install was $3800, i was a little off, I guess that is what happens when your girlfriend is talking to you and asking questions when you type, still alot though but worth it
