Default AN fittings question

The Moroso filter pictured below is avaiable in -8, -10 and -12 sizes.

Also pictured is the straight type AN hose end that I beileve I would need to attach the filter inline with the hose.

Question is what size AN fitting will fit a braided hose with a 3/8" (9mm) inside diameter? Is -8 equal to 3/8"?

I could just use one of the hose fittings that has a barb on the end but this would look much cleaner done right, instead of using hose clamps

Army/Navy fitting and hose sizes are based on exterior diameter, not interior. Hence why mixing and matching between brands is not very wise, since not everyone uses the same interior dimensions for the same AN size. See if a local race shop could help you find a fitting that would match up well to your 3/8" line, or better yet, just buy some AN line of the right size.

Yeah, you're right. Re-read what I wrote, and I'm backwards.

For a 3/8" inner hose, you'll need a AN-6 line and fitting. The external diameters are what varies between different brands, hence why fittings for Earls won't work so well with Aeroquip lines, even if they're the same AN size. Hence, what I was trying to say, that if you already have a braided 3/8" line, to check out a race shop if available for a fitting that will work best with that hose external diameter.

If that is a gasoline/fuel line you are trying to plumb, be forewarned, you will probably have fuel vapor issues if your using stainless steel braided fuel line. The teflon vapor lock line is the only braided line that can eliminate odors in fuel injected fuel systems with 30<psi fuel pres. and it uses a different type of AN fitting.

Ok change of plans.

I'm going to use a different type of filter that has -6 AN male threads comming of the tube/body and I'm going to use the female AN -6 to -6 barb adapter (pic below) and just use clamps.

This -6 to -6 adapter (pic below) is the correct size for a 3/8" (9mm) inside diamter hose, right?

That's the less expensive and easy way to do it, and yes, 6 AN is 3/8" ID. AN sizes are designated in 16ths of an inch, so a 6 AN is 6/16", which equals 3/8".
