Default Anyone find a bigger TB?

Anyone find a bigger throttle body that is drive by wire and possibly 85mm? I keep searching and searching and cant find anything. Almost every 85mm TB has a cable linkage, and is for a LS engine or a mustang

Basically im wanting to do the intake setup that aceman and audiomayhem did, but go one step further and find a bigger TB, and port match my upper plenum neck to it...

Any suggestions would help...

a lot of people have thought the way u have...some just bored out the stock one a few mm.....with our hood clearance and the way the motor was built...its not a huge bottleneck until upwards of 600rwhp....i wish i could just put a 90mm lightning mass air on my z and be done with it .....

Hey there,

Its been a while since i looked into a larger TB that would replace the stock. Mine is bored out..

Just making the TB larger and port matching the plenum neck wont net you any changes.. Maybe 1 or 2 hp.. You also need to change the size of your intake pipe and your MAF housing ( this requires tuning ).. Also, a plenum spacer and even porting your lower plenum.. I still need to revisit this.. Just been busy with other things.

Good luck and let me know if you find out anything

Todd

The GTO(ls2) and vette (ls1,ls6,ls2,ls7,ect) all have drive by wire throttle bodies.

how much does porting the TB go for???

As far as a bigger intake and MAS housing, i had already thought of that and i am planning on just going to a tubing shop and get a custom intake tube made w/a mount for the MAS.

As far as plenum spacer and lower plenum, thats already done. I gasket matched and bored my spare intake manifold. As Far as my spare lower plenum, i went a lttle too crazy on it, so i need to get another one. but at least i learned from it.

As far as this mod needing a tune to work, i already anticipated that. But will a custom flash by technosquare be sufficient? Or would i HAVE to buy and a UTEC???

If you're going to have a special intake tube made, why not eliminate the MAF sensor all together and just run in MAP mode. You would have to buy a more expensive EMS system, but that would help in lots of other ways, too.

the DBW throttle bodies for LS engines are 90mm

what are your reasons for doing this?

you'll need, at a minimum, larger MAF housing, larger intake tube, the throttle body, sorting through the wiring, larger mouth on the plenum. I looked into doing it myself, but in the end, decided it wasn't worth the price of admission, so went a different direction

As for me, im not planning on going FI or build my engine. So im pretty stuck considering i already have just about every "proven" bolt on. So now im bored and want to do something. I already have a custom intake. So i want to take things another step forward.

As far as all those parts, i already have everthing under my belt except for what im going to do with the TB

trust me, don't bother worrying about it, or spending money on it, it's not worth the cost of admission unless you can fab your own parts and the LS DBW throttle body happens to fall in your lap. It's not going to net you anything by way of gains, as the stock unit is simply not a restriction at the point your at

Before you go redesigning things why not measure the restriction oem parts cause?

Gauge Manometers are cheap on ebay and can resolve 0.1" H2O which is 0.00361 psi of restriction.
Typically Nissan uses MAF and TB that are less than 7" :
7/27.7= ~1/4 of a psi..............the problem is going bigger still has 5-6" H2O so at most you improve things 1/2% or 1-2 HP.

I'm not really driven to chime in a thread where the size of the throttle body is the issue at hand. Certainly, there are cars where a more open throttle body is a significantly expensive mod. The Z will gain little in this regard given the other mods available to add air and fuel. But I'm interested always to additional power that isn't FI.

(there were some Audi Throttle bodies that made a huge difference back in the day)
