Default New Import Tuner

Anyone see this month's new Import Tuner? They dyno'd some parts on a 350z in Power Pages... Between 4 mods they managed to make a whopping 4 hp... They need to fire whoever chose those parts...
It was an AEM Short ram (I believe), HKS Grounding Kit, and an Invidia Exhaust.
Pathetic. There's so many better mods out for our car, and they didn't pick them.

Peace

This is a major point. This kind of thing happens all over the place. Ever watch Shadetree Mechanic? It happens in car mags, computer mags, every where. Even Car and Driver.

They had an interesting little article bashing on street racing too... For any other publication such as the New York Times, or even Road & Track, this would be perfectly sound - I wouldn't have any complaints... But for a magazine that has its roots in import streetracing, its completely out of character - I wouldn't put it past them if their sponsors and people they advertise for put heavy pressure on them to put out an article like this. Whenever money is involved, companies always side with popular opinion - even companies that manufacture parts that they KNOW are most likely going to be used on cars that streetrace.

Peace

I know. I can't believe the editors let them put that article in there, its such a joke. 4 hp can be the difference between 93 octane and 89 octane. All that magazine is really good for is keeping up on trends (if you even follow up on that sort of thing).

Peace

Ill be honest i think most intakes and exhaust mods dont do much.

Ive seen alot of dynos done at the 350Z Stillen day. For the most part stock Z's numbers were just a high as modded Z's with intake and exhaust systems.

I think the only signifiacant gains will come with a some kind of forced induction. The Z is pretty tuned right out of the box.

CMJ had some of the highest HP numbers that day 241hp. All he has is a K&N drop in filter and grounding kit. The stock air box is not that bad in my opinion. I'm just looking to replace the upper pipe.

Writing about a 4hp gain is a joke. I think my car varies that much from day to day.

They did a 89 240sx that didn't get much more of a gain then that too...
I usually enjoy reading that magazine, until they have some misrepresented, inaccurate info about the car I drive and enjoy modding thoroughly in one of their articles.
I've lost a lot of respect for them... I mean really, all the exhausts out for our car and they did the Invidia Exhaust? I'm sure everyone who reads this issue is going to get a good laugh out of the Power Pages this month, and think that the 350z is a pathetic machine from the way they represented it.

Do you guys always believe what you read in the magazine? Do you relie all of your Mods guide info from Import Tuner? SP-Engineering dynoed the Invidia system on a 350z. And it made over very impressive gain. I'll look for the dyno somewhere. But do you guys really believe all of those mods only made 4whp?

On the previous Power Pages, they dynoed a WRX with down pipe and 3" cat back exhaust that made together 10whp. Come on now, we all know these parts on turbo cars make a lot more power.

My opinion is let's not always believe what's in a little kids magazine. That's why we have a 350Z forum. So all of the Z guys here can share real information and data about moding and gains. Not some bull **** writer behind a desk.
