Default Help, really weird vibrations/movements in the shifter

Today, i was driving around at 80mph at 3000 rpms on the highway in sixth gear.
The shifter was moving around very violently and going up and down. it was traveling maybe a fourth of an inch vertically, and an eighth of an inch horizontally.

What would be causing this...? I doubt its normal...
Im taking my car to the stealership tomorrow morning.

^^ What happens if you shift from 6th to 5th gear? Do you get the same vibration?

At the speed you are driving (80 mph) with that engine rotation, I wouldn't consider a quarter to an eighth inch as... "The shifter was moving around very violently and going up and down. it was traveling maybe a fourth of an inch vertically, and an eighth of an inch horizontally." ... much outside normal. Just the shake from an uneven roadway would cause this.

when i shift from 6th to 5th, i get some rattle at first, then it goes away. And those distances very conservative. i didnt want to exaggerate. i will take a video soon and post it up.

^^ The video would be helpful to diagnose your problem description.

Actually... I doubt you are outside normal. I would expect some vibration at higher speeds and engine rotation.'

I would suggest the idea you present, and post the video. That might save you the experience of having technicians at the dealership giggling behind your back about this "problem."
