Exclamation Help! Odd burning smell

After I have been driving for a while, and are stopped at a light, or when I get out, there is this burning smell coming from the rear of the car. I thought it may have been the parking brake not disengaging all the way at first, as it smells like burning brakes. So I let the car sit for a while and cool off, and then that theory went out the window, when the smell started after I had the car idling a while. Any thoughts?! Could it be the clutch going bad?!

Thanks for your help

plastic bag caught up on the muffler area could let off a nasty stink as well. plus you would nto have clutch smell coming out of the rear area or during idle, so that is not the cause. how new is the car? mine had a bad smell for like the first two months of owning it then it went away.

It's an 03 with 60,000 miles on it. I looked under the car, and could not find anything. It seems to be coming from the right rear of the car close to the tire. Could there be a leak, or do you think I may just have some asphault stuck to the exhaust, and it's burning every time the exhaust gets hot...

Sounds like a plastic bad caught your exhaust, i've had that 2 or 3 times.

IT was the rear brake caliper locking up, there was asphault that had got inside it. Damn highway construction
