Default Oil Usage On Non-revup 06 350z

Hey everybody, just wanted to vent about my oil usage on my car,
i have always used full synthetic oil since new, started out with 1st
service with mobil-1 and used that up until about 24k miles-felt very
thin and looked burned up at 3k miles-did not really check for usage
back then-then i switched to Motul synthetic once-was a little bit
cleaner looking but still not great, then i switched to Royal Purple
was much cleaner but by that time i was auto-xing once a month or
close to it and 2 track events a year and drag strip 3-4 times a year
started noticing oil was low between services-usually 1/2 to 1 qt
on average-have been using Amsoil mostly since then-have reduced
my track days because of economy(been broke)but oil usage has gotten
worse- i just checked yesterday and this oil change i have done no
track days or auto-x or drag, just commuting to work and occasional
spirited jaunts here and there-i was at 1994 miles and was 1qt and 1/2
low! no leaks on ground and no smoke from exhaust-do i need to be
concerned? my engineer friend says it is normal with how i drive my
car- i do not think so-i am now at 58k miles.

Oil use varies with driving style. Run it hard and it will consume some. That is common with ANY car.

i am surprised, i mentioned in my little statement that this oil
change i did zero track events and just did normal commutting
with an occasional stomp on the gas-why would my oil usage
increase from last oil change in less time using the same exact oil?

it shouldnt consume any oil, and if it does it should be minimal ie: .5qt every oil change

you may want to review your facts, the 06 issue is for the rev-up engine,
not mine i have the standard DE motor just like your year has.

whats up with this kid stuff? i am 32-been married almost 10yrs with a 15 yr old stepson.

oh, update since the first post, i have driven 800 miles since i added the
qt and a 1/2 and checked my oil tonight during my pre-race checklist
(have an auto-x in the a.m.) and i was 3/4 a qt low, i am still 200 miles
early for my oil change and thats 2 1/4 qts low total with no smoke or
external leaks-where the heck is this oil going?

i am going to change my oil on Monday-i think i may go back to using
Royal Purple and see how that does-i liked using it before but we do not
stock that brand where i work-we have Amsoil and Mobil-1
so i have to drive down to Pep-boys to get it.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't all '06 Z's rev-ups? Unless you did an engine swap with an earlier year....

Interesting, I thought I might have been the only one with engine oil usage issues. I rarely drive the car, maybe 50 miles per week and by no means should I be using oil.

Using Royal Purple, 200 miles before my next oil change my car DOESN'T EVEN REGISTER OIL on the dip-stick!!

Only the 6-speed cars were revups. Also, the 2005 GT's and 35th Anny's were revups
Automatics are the non-revup 287 motor

I called the dealer today-explained my case they want me to come in
and start the oil consumption test process- i am going to change my
oil tommorow and then take it to them and let them check it and they
are going to mark the oil drain plug for removal and dipstick etc... to
prove i am not siphoning it out.

Talked to the dealer again today, service manager questioned me
about my mods, all i have is normal bolt ons i said, nothing internal
done, no nitrous or meth and no FI, he said there still may be a
problem and he will get back to me once he talks to his rep.

What a load of crap! if they do not honor my Nissan max care contract
i am going to get pissed.

It's interesting you have this thread up because I just changed my oil this weekend and was about 1.8 quarts low. Granted it's been about 4,000 miles on whatever crap the dealership put in last oil change, probably Valvoline... I am pretty hard on it though, plenty of WOT, auto-x, occasional track days and spirited runs up mountain roads. So maybe its somewhat normal for 4K miles and my level of usage.

I'll definitely pay more attention next oil change though...

I lose about 1/2 quart every 2500 miles of normal driving and 1 quart if i do a trackday. I'm thinking a catch can/breather system will help.

Try changing the PCV valve. $15 valve - it helps to maintain crankcase vacuum on decel, which is where rings lose tension and oil can be sucked into the combustion chamber.

I replaced it with an oem part about 5-6k miles ago. I have worked as
a service advisor for 12 yrs-know just a little about cars-but i do appreciate the advice- i am sure you did not take the time to research
that on my bio.
