Angry Stroke Kit or Motor swap?

I don't know what 2 do. I have a 03 350 and i have gone through 2 motors in the last 4 months. I dont know if i should stroke the VQ to a 4.0 or if a rb26 or sr20 swap would be better if those swaps or even possible much less than what it costs. my insurance is giving me the money for another motor but id dont know what it would take for these 2 swaps. I think it would be better to stroke it but I live in Louisiana and there is only a handful of shops in the state that would stroke the VQ and put it back together. Advice please

2 questions.

Why have you gone through 2 motors in 4months? Forced Induction?

How is it that your insurance is covering the cost of your engine?

Default STROKE KIT OR MOTOR SWAP??? PT.2

I spun crank bearings both times. Its N/A. I told my insurance that i sucked up water through my cold air during hurricane ike so it isbeing covered under comprehensive. Revup swap i have read is very expensive and idont know if they r going 2 pay for a new motor or a rebuilt one. I dont really get on it to much on it. Dont get me wrong i run it but dont redline it. I dont know i have an ACT heavy duty pressure plate, prolite flywheel, and 6 puck drag clutch, but i dont think that should cause me to keep spinning bearings.

your clutch wont cause you to spin bearings... if you are looking for advice we need to know how much $$$ you are looking at. they will most likely pay for a rebuilt one, i highly doubt they would pay for a brand new engine, you might luck out. i know there are a few places you can purchase built blocks for 5-7k depending on what you are looking for.

if you are spinning bearings/sucking up water and making your insurance pay for it, they are going to mark you as a high risk customer which will exponentially increase your rates. you are better off removing your CAI, at least until better weather.

Once you start doing motor swaps.....That is where the money starts piling up man. I would save up and have them get you a new motor and install. You are going to have way more reliability with a vq.

Your insurance company is not going to pay for you to sway a non 350Z engine into your car

I think this thread would be alot better if it said "My insurance company is allowing me x amount of dollars to spend on replacing my motor, what should I do?" Your options are going to be limited by the amount of money they are coughing up. Get a budget to work with first, before people start telling you to do R35 GTR swaps. Good luck!

SR and RB are older, smaller engines. I wouldn't swap either of those engines except to be "unique".

Take off the CAI, and get a rebuilt VQ. Your budget is going to depend on what you can do. Stroking it will get expensive.

Default STROKE KIT OR MOTOR SWAP??? PT.3

The thing is I dont know the exact amount the r giving me. Right now I am looking at least $8000.00 from my insurance co. The stroke kit is about $5300.00, machine shop $875.00, all ACL race bearings $600.00, and then the labor to pull and put back my motor. That is pretty much what I'm working with. The insurance money is not going to be less than that but it could be more.

few things...........

1) by photobucket. Fix ur sig
2) When u post u dont half to put pt1 pt2 and pt3
3) I find it so hard to believe that insurance covered ur engine bc water was sucked up thru ur CAI. Which means u had a aftermarket product that caused the failed engine.
4) If all this BS is true DEF go with a stroked engine. Even if u cant afford FI BIG shot of juice

regarding pt4. That is not necessarily true. I got coverage on my altima with a nismo cai on it with water damage. Depends on who your insured with. Also with hurricanes they have some many claims it hard to investigate every thing especially with flood damage and a storm which 99% of the claims are flood damage.

I'd be willing to bet he wouldn't be bragging after a few rounds of prison cell hide the sausage.
