Default Clutch in, move shifter to first, car bumps forward?

If I have my clutch pressed all the way down, sitting still, and I put the shifter into first, it will bump the car forward a few inches. This doesn't seem normal... could this be an indication of my first gear synchro being worn? Maybe its a sign of a failing slave cylinder?

I also wonder if this might be related to my car occasionally popping out of first gear when launching at the track (letting the clutch out slower prevented it).
