Default Twin Carbon Clutch on 540WHP

So I am moments away from buying a 2007 G35 TT with JWT 700BB and built motor from FP and I find out the clutch is slipping.....

This is the owners response.....True or False???

"The deal on the clutch is that it is a twin carbon clutch designed for the drag strip. It slips if you run max HP at high RPM if it is not warmed up properly. I first thought something was wrong with it, but after to talking to people that know how these clutches work, I found out the issue was that I was not doing the warm up procedure which is to slip the clutch a couple times for a few seconds. Now that I know how to warm it up, I don't have the problem."

What do you guys think about this???

a twin disc carbon clutch will slip if not properly warmed up. that said, I have heard VERY mixed reviews of the GTM spec exedy.
Edit:
FYI, the D-core twin disc exedy is the clutch to get if getting an exedy. I personally run a twin disc ATS with the HD pressure plate. I have only had one instance of noticing the clutch slipping due to it being cold...

So the warm up process includes "slipping" it five times within 30 secs

I just drive mine around a bit. I don't follow a detailed warm-up regimen

That's bs.. I have never had a carbo clutch slip on me and I have had 3. If it is slipping it means it is time for a new one.

So do you warm it up by "slipping" it five time back to back or do you just drive light until you've made some shifts??

That's only for the R-compound clutch discs, and they should not slip at high RPM.

You are incorrect. This is my car that is being discussed. Here is the link from Exedy:

http://www.exedyusa.com/race/race_content.asp?id=18

This refers to their twin carbon clutches. From that page:

Warm Up Procedure
Due to the inherent properties of the carbon material, we must specify the proper way to bring the discs up to operating temperature. This Process will heat the discs so they will hold the specified torque rating. The correct method is three, five second “slips” of the clutch within 30 seconds at low RPM.

If the warm up isn't done the clutch will slip when the turbo reaches peak boost and then as the torque decreases it catches again. This is consistent with what they describe on their own website "so they will hold the specified torque rating".

You said you have had three of these. How many were from GTM / Exedy?

My clutch has only slipped 2X in over 10,000 miles of abuse. Only happened when the clutch wasnt warm and I threw a quick shift. I dont even heat it up at the drag strip anymore because when you heat them up, they actually grab too hard IMO. I have a triple but it's the same concept.

Jet is incorrect in saying if a carbon clutch slips that you need a new one, he just cant shift fast enough There is a big difference between it slipping under WOT, and the clutch slipping after a fast shift when cold....if it's the ladder, you are likely fine.
