To answer someone's question earlier, the VQ35 has variable timing on the cams. VTEC, NEO VVL, etc. vary the lift of the cams as well as the timing, depending on which engine your comparing. So, yes, they are different. Second, FI requires less overlap than NA and so needds different cam profiles. At high speeds the overlap helps NA cars pull more air in the combustion chamber. The guys running serious boost on SR20VET motors switch to DET exhaust cams for this reason. The overlap allows the pressurized air on FI cars to bleed out, where the extra vaccum created helps NA cars, is seriously negated by the loss in pressure created by the compressor.

so, what is the overlap on these nismo cams, and how is it compared to stock,...... im asuming if the overlap is not much higher than stock, this milder nismo cam may make some nice power on FI ........... the reason i ask is because i plan to go with nitrous in the near future, and a TT setup in a few years... just seing what i can piece together

does anyone know how nismo cams affect the reliability of our cars? any problems that anyone knows of that could be caused by the installation of cams?

Hey I notice that you said it cost you about $1200.

I was talking to performance motorsport here in NY, and they talked me out of doing cams, citing the fact that the cost of installation alone is too astronomical to justify the gains given by cams. I took that on face value, because if it was not the case, what shop wouldn't have wanted to take my money?!? But 1200 isn't bad at all. I'd pay that for 20-30 at the wheels (plus the cost of cams obviously)!

Edit: In your point of view, was it worth the $$?
