Red face Clutch Pedal Concerns

Original owner of 2005 350Z with 25,000 km (stored in winter - Canada, eh!), no modifications made.

Here's the concern: this past summer, my clutch pedal didn't come up after shifting and releasing my foot entirely from the clutch pedal. I had to flip the clutch petal back up with my foot while driving. It didn't happen often - perhaps 3 times. One time it was after being on the highway for an hour and then gearing down on the off-ramp and into city traffic, but the other times it was while I was accelerating and gearing up. Most of the kilomters on the car are driven in the city and I have often thought that the clutch isn't quite broken-in in low gears - it's a little stiff.

Before I put it into storage and before the extended warranty expires with Nissan, does anyone think I should be concerned? I'm not a car enthusiast (I just love my Z) so your comments or thoughts are welcome.

Some may think it is driver error, but I've been driving stick for years. As the original owner of my 1993 Nissan 240SX and now my "winter" car, it didn't have it's clutch replaced until 2 years ago, so I got 13 years out of that clutch on the way I drove that car. Let me know before I start drifting in the snow with my 240SX!

Welcome. The sticking clutch peddle is not unique. Lots of examples with potential fixes here. Read and learn.

Thanks guys. I had no clue this was such an issue. My local dealership claimed they hadn't heard of the problem. Glad I'm doing my research. Great website.

Sounds like you might have to replace your "Slace Cylyinder", (spell check). If it has gone out then you clutch pendal won't pop back up upon release.

I don't know how to replace it myself but I know it's an easy fix. Take it to a shop and they'll change it.

Good luck!

There is some decent information and decent pictures in these 2 threads.

https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance...w-problem.html

If your car is 2003 - 2006 the clutch slave cylender is on the outside of the transmission bellhousing (where it should be) making it easy for you or any transmission or repair shop to change it. .. ie it should be 1 hour of labor or 2 hours tops.

If your car is 2007+ the clutch slave cylender is inside the transmission bellhousing making replacing it a damn hard job. Drop the transmission, remove the bellhousing, then change the slave cylender.

Moving the slave cylender inside the bellhousing was a poor design decision. Changes like that give minimal performance, design, or build cost improvements and end up making the car extremely expensive to maintain. Nissan is paying for their poor design choice. With early 2007 cylenders failing, Nissan is eating the cost of replacing many of them. -- https://my350z.com/forum/vq35hr/3281...-cylinder.html
