--- 3.2 Gears Swap --- From Auto to Manual
Hey guys,
I KNOW THIS SOUNDS ODD!
But I drive my car A LOT on the freeway (2000 freeway miles every month) and NEED better gas milage on the freeway.
It is my DD, so its not a problem if a loose "a little" of performance; I can always shift to a lower gear...
My questions are;
1- Has anybody done it on an N/A yet? Let me know!
2- How much more MPG do you think I can get?
3- What RPM would it be at 65mph? (or 60mph, whatever).
(I would be swapping the pumpkin from an Auto car, I have a 6spd)

OP, You have to worry about maintenance cost also, it's not cheap.
You need something low maintenance cost/good gas milies car.

The MT's have a 3.5 and the auto's have a 3.3. There's no 3.2. A lot of FI guys do this, but they do it with a 3.3 to make use of their newly found powerband. Good luck and have fun getting a 3.2 into your Z.
Here's something that could help your confused self out and your situation.
You can thank me later.

Haha sorry 3.3.
Well I have been over at other 350z forums but just joined this one. Actually, someone else posted the same exact question here somewhere else and actually got it answered... hmmm

I read on one thread something reffering to companion flange incompatibilities based on year model...something about the 05's have a different companion flange than the 03-04 cars. does anyone know if this is the case?
I have an auto and am looking @ going the opposite way.

Wow why so rude... ?
First of all, the other person started the thread AFTER me; so ***** him out.
Second, he simply worded it "when I go to FI", maybe I should have done the same and save all the trouble... whats with somebody trying to be different than everybody else anyway?! Booring world must be for everyone to be the same huh...

But, on the other side it does get irritating answering the same question 1000x. I've been guilty of calling people out on their retarded questions(both in life, and on web)...even though I shouldn't...my irritation gets the best of me.
like others have said, the extrapolate the cost of the swap over the savings in gas money and it will take years to make up the difference.
+1 on buying a civic or yaris for commuting. my buddy just sold his 45 mpg civic for under 2000$. They are very common. The swap will cost almost 1/2 that.

Don't worry about the people on here, some of them are probably just very bored sitting at work.
I'm planning on doing the same thing, but i will definitely see the benefits of it, as gas here in Europe is around $6 a gallon. Plus i will be putting a supercharger on in the near future.
I think in the US it wouldn't make a lot of sense as your fuel is relatively cheap. If your worried about gas mileage, just drive a little slower.

I wasn't trying to be rude. I was genuinely curious as to why you'd start your own thread if the same question was asked and then was answered. I wasn't, however, aware that yours was created first. My apologies if I sounded rude.
However, this question HAS been answered in other threads prior to your thread's creation. Maybe not specifically answered, but it has been answered.
-Nobody did this N/A, so they couldn't tell you - only guess.
-MPG is dependent on the driver's driving habits, so again this will get you opinions.
-You can calculate the RPM using gear calculators.
