Default Motul Gear 300

Hi guys.

Ok here's a short story first. I got my car last year and took it to Nissan for my first complete check up. they said everything, including all the fluids were fine when they gave it back to me.

fawk. yesterday i decided to have a look at the diff fluid and AT fluid and the heavily burnt stench was enough to make anyone sick. so, to heck with the stealership!

ofcourse i got the atf matic j drained and re-filled.

now my real question ...
Has anybody used the Motul Gear 300 before? i'd like to hear it from anyone whose done about 10k miles or more with these babies. opinions? results?

reason is, the z will be seing more track days (circuit) and summer time means the Z will take even heavier beating.

tia!

btw. here's for reference http://www.motul.com.au/product_line...ox/gear05.html

gear 300 is for manual transmissions..you need automatic transmission lube. Motul calls it Multi ATF

also, fwiw, have you ever smelled even new transmission fluid? It's enough to make you hurl.....so don't assume yours needs replacing (not that its a bad thing to replace it, just making sure you're aware that fresh stuff from the bottle is 180 away from 'pleasant' smelling lol

gear 300 is for your differential. That's what I run in my stock VLSD.

Adam is right! Tranny fluid smells like donkey *****.

Don't judge by the smell..I may be wrong but I believe they judge the fluids by how dark it looks. The dealership most likely knew what they were doing..

LMAO @ donkeyballs smell.

well when we opened up the Differential plug and drained all the fluid it was really black and very, very thick (apologies if i didnt mention this earlier. )
Then the guy at the shop showed me a fresh sample of the Motul Gear 300 and it was yellowish-transparent so i felt the urgency to replace it asap and i could never trust the stealership service center anymore.

...and i cant believe how that dude was still able to enjoy his sammich next to the oil pan. crap! lol

anyways, recently we filled up the Diff with this product. And thus my need for any advise before it's too late. did i make the right choice?

its suitable for use on the stock VLSD, as well as the manual transmission. Also, since I know someone is going to ask, it meets GL4 and GL5 standards.

To the OP, the diff fluid is usually good till about 30k miles, at which point it should be replaced. I usually change the transmission fluid at that time too - just good preventative maintenance. Keep it mind that even fluid with 10k miles might very well come out thicker than new and very black - it's very common. Just like during an oil change, after even 3k miles, oil rarely has its original color to it. It's part of the reaction the fluid goes through. Just do it at regular intervals, and you'll be in good shape
