hmmm...i haven't had my tranny off my motor on this car yet, or i'd try to help ya out. Here's a free bump for you since i know how frustrating it can be waiting to get an answer while your car is in pieces...

for what it's worth, on my old 420A motor...the first time i pulled of the pressure plate, i had to pry on both sides to apply an even pressure on either side in order to get it to come off....but that was a 4cyl FWD car...so i'm not gonna assume any knowledge here...

Sounds like the pressure plate is just stuck on the dowl pins that hold it to the flywheel. You should be able to get a screwdriver in behind it and pry it loose in several locations around the edges.

It is perfectly normal for the plastic alignment tool to have a little play in the pilot bushing. To get the pilot bushing out I normally use a tool called a blind hole puller with a slide hammer (I am pretty sure that you don't have this). If you don't have one of these laying around...I would recommend 2 things:

1. Pack the hole inside the pilot bushing with grease and the insert the alignment tool and smack the back of it with a hammer. This will use the grease to force the bushing out.

2. If there are no metal shavings in the bell housing and the bushing feels smooth on the inside, I would NOT change it. Since is can be tricky to get out, and you seem a little unsure of things.

Hope this helps out!
