Default coolant bypass mod

Hey guys I copied this from my thread over on driver. Well after several attempts to sell these things I realized it would probably be better for me to share the information rather than trying to sell and ship these things. I will only fab for local people as to be able to do the install myself. Burping of the coolant system is not an easy task. I really dont want to be responsible for someone messing up thier own car across the country. Enclosed are several pics with narations along the way. Any questions feel free to pm me. mike

full kit

driver side flange to block

driver side pipe bottom

passenger side pipe top

passenger side heater core nipple

rear cast pipe plugged

The pathfinder coolant mod adds another thermostat to the back of the block. This kit actually eliminates the oil warmer, throttle body and thermostat cross over tube. With the addition of the nismo stat and an aftermarket oil cooler we have seen drops in coolant temps around 7 degrees. Basically just less wear and tear. Any questiond feel free to pm. mike

I run a similar set to what MIke has posted. It has been great for me too.

You have to understans why Nissan did what they did on the DE motor. Emissions testing is very important to the OEMs. The lower they can get their averages for their emtire car line, the better off they are for many reasons. SO, in an effort to improve emissions on these engines, Nissan needs the engine to get up to full operating temps as fast as possible. While an engine is warming up, it runs richer and has higher emissions levels. to speed up the warmup process, nissan did a couple things. One was the oil warmer down by the oil filter. since water temps will rise faster than oil temps, nissan used coolant flow around the oil filter area to help heat up the oil temps faster. Also, Nissan uses a radiator bypass line in the coolant system to bypass the radiator. the water that bypasses the radiator is sent right back to the cylinder heads in an effort to get everything up to operating temps as fast as possible.

the majority of high bad emissions output happens during warmup situations. So, Nissan used these 2 methods to get lower emissions rating on these engines.

I eliminated all these extra hoses, fittings, and pipes from my car so that it makes everything simpler and easier to work on. plus, it makes the engien alot nicer to look at!!!

Geez... I love this mod...

Do you have to take the engine out to change the rear cast piece? I recently swapped out a knock sensor and there isn't a lot of room back there.

Either of you guys (Mike or Andrew) have any before and after pictures?

.

Nice mod but i think your thread will be closed by a mod since you are not a paying vendor.

Read his first post.

He isn't selling anything.

He's giving his technology away.

John,

the rear piece is tough in the car! I decided against doing it before I had the lift. with the lift, it is easier to get to the lower nuts on that piece. the wirring harness is in the way andmakes removing the cast crossover difficult.

With patience and perceverence, I'm sure you can do it.

I have put the Nissan pathfinder cooling mod while the engine was still in the car. It's a PITA but with patience it can be done. (PS I did use a lift borrowed from a friend, but I could done without it.
