Default How Long To Pull The Engine

I tried to search but the search feature on here sucks to say the least. I am looking at getting a 04ZR and want to do FI. The one thing I wanted to know is how hard is it to pull the engine and how long does it typically take to remove it?

I am in the process of my second full removal and reinstall in my 03 Z.

How long it will take depends on how you remove it. I don't have a lift so I have to pull the motor out of the front. That means removing the from bumper, composite front frame thing, a/c condenser, radiator and radiator fans, headlights and hood.

I would say that removal takes me about 3-4 hours with a helper. (This is with the turbos already installed you could probably save 30 minutes if removing stock motor)

The other option if you have access to a lift is to drop the motor out of the bottom of the car. This is quicker because you don't have to pull the front off and working under the car in general is easier with a lift. I would estimate that the motor can be removed in under 3 hours with a lift.

The stock motor will be very easy to remove since it doesn't have turbos hanging off of it, once you install twins it makes the clearances MUCH tighter and everything is harder to work on.

Overall the VQ in the Z is one of the move difficult motors to remove because there is just no extra space anywhere.

Good luck

I just did mine. I am far from a mechanic and it took me and another member from 7:00pm till 03:00am we had a pizza break in there too. we pulled the motor through the front. I am TT already so it might be quicker to do a NA one less piping and oil/water lines to deal with.
