110 Octane Racing Gas
a gas station near me sell 110 octane racing gas and ive got a stock 2003 350z. and i was wondering if anyone knows if it's safe to use? and if would there be any hp gains?
Thanks
Thanks
Well, at $8 a gallon, you had better NEED it.
The main reason for high octane fuel is to help prevent detonation within a boosted engine. There's no harm in using it in a regular engine, and there's probably not much power gain, unless you were already on the verge of detonation and the ECU was pulling timing.

thats good to know.
I work at an airport and and acouple of guys with srt4s bought some 100ll aircraft fuel for there cars. they said they were experimenting with a dyno and fuel additives and added it to a full tank of premium. they claim they got 20 hp and 10tq from 5 galllons in a 13gallon tank i think. i dunno what the tank on a srt is but crazy shtuff.
im just making a comment not contradicting or argueing with you at all.

I'm pretty sure I just read yesterday that aircraft fuel has lead in it, which will shorten the life of an automobile engine that's designed to use unleaded fuel. Higher octane by itself doesn't give you more power.
its called 100LL wich means 100 octain Low Lead so your right it does but some engines (mainly old ones) dont get botherd. and yea it screws with 02 and cats. wasnt my car but thats crazy horsepower from 9 more octain.
Added octane with a tuned engine increases your ability to rev without knocking, then you get more hp and tq. If you have different maps for this, you get more hp by changing the map with the fuel, if not, I don't think it would be noticeable though I have not yet measured this, but probably a good idea to do. It certainly feels like I have a boost with the map switch and higher octane fuel.
Unless it is unleaded race fuel I wouldn't recommend it due to potential damage to the O2 sensors and cats. Stay away from aviation fuel unless you are adding cylinder lube to it, aviation fuel burns very dry and lacks the cooling ability of quality race fuels.
With a basic 110 race fuel you're not going to see any real power gains on a stock vehicle. With oxygenated fuels such as MS109 from VP you'll see some gains based on the expansion and burn rates of oxygenated fuels.
