Default revup heads on a non-rev DE?

I'm hoping to gain the variable exhaust timing by adding some rev-up heads to my non-rev DE, is this even feasible? I'm pretty sure everything will bolt up right but will my ecu be able to control it? I have a Osiris flash, will this give me the added functionality I need to control it? sorry if this is a noob question i did a quick search and couldnt find anything.

No, Not without a revup ecu and engine harness. I dont even know if that would work with the bcm.

Can you actually put revup heads on a non-revup block.

I ask because i have someone that is selling a non-revup block without the heads, but i have a revup in my car. So i would like to buy the block and build it up, and then put my heads on it when i'm ready to swap them over.

Any help would be great!

yeah they physically fit... the only difference I noticed was there is two holes in the back of each instead of one. this is for the extra cam sensor

you might as well swap a full revup motor, ecu and harness........which is a waste anyway

All the work to swap the heads would net you a revup motor essentially.

You obviously didn't read my post clearly.

I have a revup in my car now. There is someone selling a non-revup shortblock at a good price. I will be putting all my revup hardware onto this block when i'm done building it up.

In short, i have a revup and all the harware. I just want to know if revup heads will bolt up directly to a non-revup block, so that i can build the motor and have it to one side ready for when i do the swap, then i just have to switch over the heads and plug everything back in. Basically i just need to know if the revup block, and non-revup block are identical.

So the non-revup block only has one mounting point for the cam sensors. Surely that would be a big problem then?

My first reply was to the op not you. This is his thread, not yours.

From what I have read and seen the VQ35DE blocks from RWD 350z's and g35's are interchangeable between rev-up and non rev. Several of the block building manufacturers have sold short blocks that work for all year 350z's with the DE no matter if it was a revup or nonrev.

Cam position sensors are mounted in the heads, not the block.

Sorry about that. Seeing as the thread was dead for a while i assumed you were responding to me, my mistake.

Thanks for the reply anyway.

the revup front and rear covers are different from the DE covers... you need to have the rear covers lineup... if you want to put HR heads on a DE you need to use 09 maxima rear and front covers... short deck block with HR heads

Rev up heads will work, you just have to plug up the extra cam timing sensor hole

Would like to know if you were able to put the non rev up block to your revup heads?

I pretty much have the same issue. I have a 2006 350z 35th anniversary and I´m from Panama and can´t find a rev up engine. Only non revups are available.

And how can I distinguish a non revup from a revup? Is it the two plugs (green and blue) on the engine cover?

They fit, you either have to plug the cam pos sensor as previously said... although I wonder if they could work with an aftermarket ECU, IDK.

Hilarious and oh how I remember those days

back OT
I'm really interested in this now that the question has been posed
I have spare DE I'm going to find the maxima front and rear covers and try to source some heads, this would be a very nice upgrade. So the cams will have additional sensors so would whole new harness really be necessary, I suppose, I'll have to check the FRM hopefully there are details there of the wiring

**** im in a giving mood today and since i was already here quickly, yes revup heads bolt up to de engines, if your expecting some more power from doing it then dont waste your time, the heads are the exact same casting the only difference is the revup heads had two additional processes done to them in machining and those are the hole drilled/threaded for the cam sensor bolt and the cam sensor hole being machined out.

the extra power comes from the revup cams, which can be put into the de engine easily it simply requires to buy intake cam bolts and a large 1/4 inch thick washer since the threads are deeper in the revup exhaust cams, or buy the bolts from jwt which already have it. be warned though you will have a wide lobe separation angle, this can be fixed with jwt adjustable cam gears, run the wide lobe separation for a wide low down power curve, or get a degree wheel and start jumping teeth on the exhaust cam.

the heads that flow more(stock) are the HR heads because they have larger ports, in theory they should bolt up to a de block but it will be less work and money to just have the de heads ported to HR specs since the vvt system is completely different.
