So is there a short shifter thats worth getting? I had the B&M a while back and it was not good. Any one is using a short shifter that liking it? Btw it is for an 05 350z.

Stillen or NISMO - I've used both personally (stillen in my own car as NISMO was out of stock when I needed it) and it's been terrific

 

IMO SS are a waste of money...

 

Im not sure about the nismo.... but where can i buy the stillen short shifter?

the nismo is a nicer unit overall IMHO, as it's adjustable, they are just very, very hard to get your hands on.

 

how much more precise is the shifting? b/c coming from a wrx, the 350z's transmission is very notchy...my subie was very precise and it was the 5mt aka "glass tranny", that's one thing that surprised me when i first drove a 350z

 

I have the Stillen shifter on my car - it is an immediate, noticeable, and very positive different

I've got more years experience with Subaru than I have with the 350Z. I started modding Subaru's in '98. I would not describe the WRX transmission in stock form as anything resembling precise. With the Kartboy short shifter, or the STi Group N one (not the dealer option piece), different story

 

I have had the Rogue on mine for a few years and while I love it, it doesn't eliminate the notchiness of the tranny. Actually increases it b/c of the shorter throw, there is more effort needed to get in each gear. There is more speed and precision to be had though and none of the rattles that others have complained of with the B&M.

I think I'm actually going to remove it soon to make it a bit more friendly for the wife to drive.

 

I know with the B&M there are a few things that need to happen for it to work like filing and it is very fustrating to put it into 5th and 6th. I know because i used to have it and i took it off. If you have or had the B&M then you know what i am talking about. I love short shifters and the way they feel which is why i was asking if there is one worth getting??

 

Concerning the Nismo SS, does it actually shorten throw or just the height? In looking at pictures it seems the Nismo only adjusts the height to achieve a shorter throw.

Since I have a height extension to raise the **** I'm looking to shorten the throw back to stock but still keep the same higher height level so it is still close to steering wheel height.

 

throw changes in 2 ways on a lever - you alter the length of the lever, or you alter the pivot point

 

Z1 Performance, So does that mean Nismo achieves the shortening through use of shortening lever length rather than pivot point?

 

Ok, after hours of searching I think I found my answer. The Nismo adjustment is both above and below the fulcrum. Like moving the one peice shift up and down about the fulcrum pivot ball.

So now my question becomes, for those who have the Nismo SS, how much lower is the shift **** at the -40% setting.

Like others have mentioned in previous threads, I'm looking for the shortest throw with the highest shift **** height so that the shifter is closer to the steering wheel.

I have seen that picture but there are no dimensions. So from Stock to -40%is around 10mm shorter in height? The throw I'm assuming is lowered by 40% and but not the height hopefully.
