The fx35 only has 280hp at the crank, the fx45 is the one with more horse, but that's only 315 at the crank.

That is the FX45 4.5L V8 with 315HP. The FX35 with 3.5L makes 280HP.

rxramon your thinking of the FX45 a 4.5L V8. The FX35 has our VQ35DE and in the FX it produces 280hp.

4.5 only puts down 315 at the crank,

Thats about 267 at the wheels and if we all wheel drive the Z, throw in a rally suspension move the intake duct to a scoop position...... Were talking rally winner.

Now all we need is for crush to keep the parts

First, do a lot of investigation to verifry that the engines are identical. They may share the same block (crank, pistons, rods, etc.), but they may have vastly different plenums, heads, etc. This kind of stuff could really confuse the Z's ECU.

If that are the identical, I say you start moding the crap out of it. Start with a turbo and see what the stock internals can take. Remember, this engine is just for experimenting. Find the breaking point. Then but your original Z engine back in with the turbo setup, rods, pistons, brass value guides, titanium retainers and springs, etc. Then you can start to slowly tune and raise the boost even further. You just might end up with one beast of an engine.

Boring and stroking might be an option if you want to stay NA. However, a blueprint, balance and bore can only be partly transferred to a different engine.

Now your talking. As far as the engine its all the same. According to my interchange computer they are all the same. Z, G35 coupe and the FX are exactly the same. I have checked numbers and the looks of every mount and bolt and its exactly the same except for the cover.

On an another note.... 4 wheel drive Z hmmmmm thats a thought.

I got 18 Murano engines, which are the same as the Altima 3.5 and the Maximas 2002 and 2003. 2 Pathfinders and the one FX35. I figured nobody cared about the others.

My local engine builder said the VQ motors use sleved clys like honda blocks. He said if he wanted to keep the motor running for any legnth of time he would not boost it! I say you should prove him wrong!

Stroke the motor and throw in some 8.8:1 CP pistons w/ pauter or crower rods and some super agressive custom cams from crane. Then boost the motor to like 16 psi and be happy in 500 hp land! I don't know if anyone has installed low comp pistons in the vq35 yet for a boosted application, but the high comp rate of the stock internals is probably holding people back. May as well take your time and build a proper motor while its out of the car. What do you have to loose? Its a free motor! Boost it!

OK. Next question. Who could do something like that? I dont want to blow 10k on a free motor. That kinda defeats the purpose I think. I have a good mechanic that can build the hell out of a 350 chevy but to mess with this beast its a whole different story.

You wouldn't be 'blowing' 10K on a free motor.. you would be blowing a 'free' motor. Then use what you learn by 'blowing up' a free motor to learn what you can do to your motor. Just take the 10K in parts you bought and put them on your original motor.

Actually, if I had your opportunity, I would go all NA. Buy all the stronger internals you would use in a FI setup and go way aggressive the NA route. Stroke it or whatever else you can do to it. Then if you still want more, FI your original motor and keep the NA for a backup. If you blow your FI motor then crush that one and call it even.

Would you be willing to sell any of these engines for parts?
