can you suggest a good brand of oil to put in my 03 Z?

I was putting Castrol full synthetic but realize it was a waste of money... just run any "mainstream" brand and you'll be good... heck, if Nissan oil is good..

it's a valid question and it's a new user .. check out the 350z engine / tech forum and look at the oil analysis thread and draw your own conclusions. it will take some research.

I personally use castrol gtx.

...and that silly VQ oil analysis provides no insight what so ever!

you have an 03 so nissan recommends not changing the oil. Its a feature with the VQ motor, you"re supposed to leave the oil that came in it from the factory in there for the life of the car.
