Car magazines will try and get the BEST time they can for 0-60 and 1/4 mile. eg, the RX-8 was tested at a 5.9sec 0-60, but what they do not tell you is that they drop the clutch at 8k rpms and do usually do not use the clutch! This is not normal driving, and I do not know why they have such slow times for the 350Z.

Talking Called Motorex today

Well one our customers brought the issue by for me today and I got a chance to read it.

After reading it I called Motorex and what they did have on the car was JWT Flywheel, Pop Charger, and the Cams are prototype and more agressive then the NISMO ones.

The article said they had a stock exhaust, but they mentioned they had a 5 zigen and now i think the car is at APEX getting an APEX exhaust, so it did not have a stock exhaust.

Other then that I still think they put a Skyline engine in it. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it lol

just thtought I would share cause I'm still in disbelief.

ZyA!

I wonder if the C-West kit some how push so much more air into the engine bay with the hole on the front bumper, the POP charger actually gives the car more HP(20HP??) when speeding. Plus the "aggressive cam" and exhaust, 60+HP does not sound too unbeliveable.

I called JWT today, they said........

They won't disclose anything about the cams, no specs or anything. Price will be around $1100.00.

They said check back with them next month.

YEAH.... RIGHT.... Does the aggressive cam come with the head, valves, block, etc.... sounds a lot like a skyline after you install them...

I agree that they aren't making power, but they are improving the efficiency of power transfer to the road, effectively increasing whp.
Yes, you could argue parasitic loss is reduced with a lighter flywheel, but this effect is very minimal.

The bottom line is that adding a lighter flywheel is ALMOST identical to cutting off weight from the car. Your RWHP will be the same ~240HP, but the car will act as if it were lighter. You are improving your Horsepower to Weight ratio under acceleration, not really increasing horsepower.

I was so intrigued by the MotoRex HP gains that I purchased the magazine to read the whole article. On pg. 105, there's a picture of the MotoRex's engine bay, where you can see the popcharger but there also appears to be a cold air duct similar to the gruppe-s one. You can't see what’s behind the bumper but it does look like carbon-fiber. So cold air, short air stack, aggressive cams, and exhaust = est. 350bhp. I think I like!

I've been subscribing to both mags for over 25 years and Car and Driver is the only one that has said they do drag-racing starts, rev way up and dump the clutch. They also pre-load the torque converter on automatics. This was always published to demonstrate how they got 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.

The other mags have historically just accelerated from a dead stop to get their times. C&D always used to record a .5 faster time than the other mags because they used that technique. Now, the times seem to be closer, so its hard to tell if its still true.
