As i think i will be needing another trans.. YES I said another number 4.. It is acting the same way b4 I had it replaced.. But since im friends with the service manager i told him forget about it till i get a new clutch for him to put in for free hehe..

honestly, you sound like you have a lot more money than sense.

if you were "practicing launches" and smelled clutch, then you aren't launching properly. Unless you have some serious rubber on your car, I doubt your clutch is having trouble with grip. A lot more likely situation is that you're launching at a higher RPM than necessary..

Default Clutch

SPEC Stage 3 is what I installed a month ago! Not very streetable but works well on launch! A stage 2 would probably work well for you! Aproximately $700 installed!

I have a Clutchmasters Stage 3 on order; it should arrive early next week. I got it for $580. According to the manufacturer this clutch will allow good driveability but has 110% more clamping ability. Check out their Stage 2, it is designed for longer life with 70% more clamping ability.

azrael: What are you talking about.. Im launching from 3k not to high if you ask me.. My trans might be commin out and would be an IDEAL time to put in a new clutch.. One that is stronger that can withstand the punishment.. Also look at the last 2 posts. Looks like im not the only 1..

I'm kind of shocked that more people haven't had clutch problems. Both the Sti and the Evo have had a ton of problems but that probably has a lot to do with AWD and young kids doing 6K drops.

A clutch with a stiffer pressure plate will put more stress on the transmission, so it's possible Nissan will refuse warranty work on your transmission in the future.

STi's have not had clutch issues that I have heard of - and we work on 90% Subaru's here daily...

Evo's are another story - the clutch is the weak link in that car.

For the Z's though, even many of the tuners in Japan are using the stock clutch still, as its a very capable unit. I ahve not heard of FI guys running new clutches for the most part either.

Wne mine finally goes south (which it inevitable will at some point), I'll most likely fit eh Exedy unit that comes with the integrated flywheel (should be out by end of the year).

Those of us that I know of who are getting new clutches are running nitrous...lots of nitrous producing lots of torque. The stock clutch is slipping on us.

John.. My service guy said he will put a new 1 in and everytime my trans goes he will replace it free of charge.. This guy is realy kool he keeps begging me to get the ATI hehe..

I sure wish Clutchmasters had come out with their clutches four months ago:$600 for a stock clutch is a little steep.

That said, once the time comes I will be installing a stage III Clutchmaster clutch. It'll be much harder on the street, but still driveable.
